He literally does not let anybody fight on the inside! The second the 2 fighters come close, he's in there saying "break it up...break it up". What's up with that?? He even does it when the fighters arent even clinching. It was quite evident in the Hatton/Mayweather fight, and this past wknd in the Khan/Maidana fight.

Guys like him are the result of people calling a lot of inside fighters/fighting dirty imo.

What shocked me is that when Khan would hold Maidana's arm, maidana would punch with the other and Cortez would stop it. It was freaking legal.

He has always been quick to break fighters up his entire career. Hopkins never liked him for that reason. I expect Froch fans to be begging for Ward-Froch to have Cortez as the ref.

Cortez is a very shitty ref. One of the shittiest name refs. He needs to go to Bayless school.

I wasnt rooting for either fighter. I just dont like the way Joe breaks up the fighters as soon as they come close to one another.

Cortez was definetly doing some unneccesary seperating of the fighters. Maidana would gain a little steam and he would step in for no reason. got really annoying when khan was on bad legs.

I don't have much issue with it. There's a difference between inside fighting and wrestling. Hatton Mayweather was almost unwatchable for the 1st few rounds. There is bound to be instnaces of holding by one side or another during a fight, as long as the ref's approach is consistent and fair throughout the fight I have no issues.

because Hopkins holds, we are talking about inside fighting, right? Maidana wasnt holding. Joe just doesnt allow inside fighting
