    THIS:deal:deal:deal:deal

HBO offered a far better price for the two fight deal than Stevenson will get vs Fonfara and BHOP.....IF he get's BHOP.

Point being, he saw the Kovalev fight as a condition to the big ticket, and he ducked the f outta there as fast as humanly possible.:deal

Can't disagree that it is smart business and it might result in him making more money. But there is no way you can tell me he has been hep to the idea of fighting Kovalev at any time. His actions at every crossroad speak to the exact opposite.

As for HBO, it sounds as if they just refuse to keep laying out money for the guy until they get some guarantee from Stevenson that he'd fight Kovalev, and he won't give it. He seems to shy away from the fight at every turn. When asked about Kovalev, he mentions Froch and Hopkins, waits all of 2 weeks and signs to fight Fonfara.

A simple yes or no . Do you think Stevenson wants to fight Kovalev?

And fighting Hopkins? At this point, I'd be surprised if Hopkins fought Stevenson, and it'd serve him right. Hopkins has been very, very savvy at selecting his opponents in the latter years. He knows who he could beat, who'd give him trouble.

All HBO had to do was to pony up the dough . . . it was showtime out maneuvering HBO to not only take away a big name fighter but also a big fight HBO had hoped to put together. I just think it was a brilliant move on show part. I am upset that superman v kov may not happen but that is way the cookie crumbles . . . no need to cry over it. just pick up the pieces and move on. Stevenson v Bhop is not a bad consolation prize . . . which i think is the biggest payday either guy can make right now

That's my point. Kovalev is going to fight Agnew and Stevenson is going to fight fonfara regardless of whether or not Stevenson went to Showtime or not. Like you said, if Stevenson or Kovalev get upset in their upcoming fights, then wouldn't it benefit Stevenson to go the route that offers the most money? At least if he loses he would have maximized his earning potential which is what everyone is trying to do, regardless of profession. If Hopkins loses his next fight, there's always the Kovalev fight for Stevenson to fall back on.

I'm not disappointed that we never got to see Lopez-Gamboa. Neither turned out to be the real deal, so who cares if they never fought. Despite that, Gamboa still had a chance to become a star but he made some stupid mistakes. Fans should be upset that fights like Pryor/Leonard, Mosley/Trinidad, and Pac/Floyd never got made. We shouldn't waste our time over fights like Lopez/Gamboa never getting made because it wasn't the superfight we all thought it would be since one fighter turned out to be all hype.

But you get my point now that we don't know what the future holds, so try to make as much money as possible while you can. Now, if Stevenson makes some money and still won't fight Kovalev, then it can be considered a duck. This isn't a situation like Mayweather who has made a lot of money and still refuses to fight his greatest threat. Stevenson has just recently gained his fame, and he wants to make the most amount of money for the same fight. If the Hopkins fight falls through, then there's always the Kovalev fight next year.

No MONEY is never an excuse . . . they are prize fighter . . . They fight for a living!

God, what planet do you guys live on? Are you seriously telling me that you love your job so much that you would not leave your company for another that does the exact same thing for a lot more money . . . kids grow the hell up.

You know something...while everyone is making excuses for Stevenson about money, health, and happiness, you all forgot one thing:

Kovalev didn't care about anything other than giving Stevenson a beatdown. He didn't come up with excuses about anything. A true prize fighter who just wants to fight anyone and everyone.

Mayweathers reasons are valid. to a degree. Stevensons are not. Sorry man. Maybe you just accepted that ducking fights is just a part of the sport now because of the Mayweather/Pac fiasco ... but this is FIGHTING! You are nothing but a paper champ if you dont fight the best. Its that simple. Stevenson is a paper champ. He'll NEVER fight Kovalev. You guys keep saying "hes 37" .. you think he'll fight Kovalev later? GTFO. HELL NO.
He will NEVER fight him because he is too AFRAID! He is scared so **** him!

Kov is doing the right thing . . . he has to stay active and keep winning and winning spectacularly. He will be a big star and fighters will be lining up to fight him. Unfortunately, he is not a big draw yet (on the brink . . . but not quite there). Stevenson and Bhop are aging and soon the division will be his to rule. Hardcore fans love him but his true believers have to be careful not to alienate other boxing fans. He and GGG have to follow Pac's model to success . . . minus the *******s.

But the thing is ... no one will line up to fight him. Thats the problem man. Agnew is the only one who would!

Kov is not making any money so of course he wants to fight Stevenson! Of course he is not gonna say I want to fight him for a career high payday:patsch

No a hungry prize fighter says he will fight anyone, anywhere. **** I would fight anyone anywhere for the kind of money that Kov would make with Stevenson

July would be 9 months since Hopkins last defended his IBF belt. Hopkins always has that to fall back on if he decides Stevenson isn't his cup of tea.

This is a sad thread that transcends boxing. It actually opens up a disturbing window into how a growing segment of society thinks and is a pathetic indictment into the mindset that is crippling this once productive nation.
