What's wrong with Adonis Stevenson fighting on Showtime?

If he really wanted to maximize earnings, he was offered - and could have taken Kovalev fight instead of Fonfarra for a lot more money than Fonfarra. Then he could have hopped to SHO with no complaints.

Thats something people seem to be forgetting - it was not HBO who wanted a fall collision, it was Team Stevenson who said no Kovalev fight right away. HBO would have financed that fight at any point since Kovalev won the belt from Cleverly.

If it was about money, why not fight Kovalev and then head to SHO both with and for even more money? He could easily have fought all 3 titleists then.

Why did Kovalev sign to fight the TOMATO CAN he's fighting this weekend instead of signing on to fight Stevenson?

 

Because the fight was offered to Stevenson, accepted by Kovalev and...... turned down by Stevenson. Thats why.

 

Pretty much. The fight was supposed to be made after Stevenson/Bellew, Kovalev/Sillakh. That was HBOs plan. Kovalev does his part and calls out Stevenson in his own building, in front of his own fans, only to have Stevenson start offering up Froch and Hopkins as consolation prizes (to the sound of crickets), only to actually fight Fonfara. That night was the turning point. When this fight went from being realistic to unrealistic. You can only have a fight if both sides want it. In this case 1 side clearly does not.

 

He said he would fight if the money was right but HBO wasnt willing to make it right. Why fight Kov if you can make as much off of Fonfara? Why stick with HBO if Show is giving you the same thing a tune up and a unification bout for more money?

 

You people defending Stevenson are idiots.

 

These non-business minded fools can't seem to get this through their thick skulls.
They seem to expect him to take less cash, fight who they want him to fight, with no regard for his own objectives.
Seems to me, that thinking this way just sets yourself up for failure.
