To be fair to boxing fans, ESB posters, and fighters, most of these people saying these things are the same posters day in and day out. These same posters have one favorite fighter in common and this is where they get their bull**** views. So, its not really boxing fans that think this way is what I'm saying.
Cotto is too easily hit. He has taken two significant beatings in the last year. While he can certainly continue boxing, he stands an excellent chance of spending a good portion of the rest of his life semi-incoherent. He is still a decent fighter. He may even be able to regain a belt in the future, if his management handpicks foregone conclusions for him until the right opportunity arises. He simply is not and (IMO) will never again be an elite fighter. I could be wrong. Kessler is still a threat. My main concern with him is the damage he sustained last night, not for his career, but for the Super6 Tourney. By the way, all of these posts about "boxing fans nowadays" are disingenuos at best and flat out ignorant at worst. There have ALWAYS been a significant majority of boxing fans who do not know squat. They pick a favorite and back him until he loses. Many will then just pick a new favorite. Often his has a bunch to do with isms I refuse to go into here.
That's not what I'm seeing to be honest. Maybe most boxing fans don't immediately call someone overrated. But you can clearly see in most of them a sudden disinterest in a fighter when he loses. We usually talk a lot about a certain fighter when he keeps winning, when he's on a roll. We usually put a certain fighter into a pedestal and put him in lists titled "Best...." or "Greatest....". BUT when that certain fighter loses, then suddenly most of the talk about him suddenly disappears. He is then ignored and removed from those lists above. And also when he loses against 1 fighter, suddenly people start thinking that maybe he would also lose to 3 or 4 other fighters, whereas that kind of talk never existed before. That's the kind of mentality I see in most of the boxing fans today tbh. I would perfectly understand if that kind of mentality is justified and is reasoned logically, but sadly its not.
Its the Intentionally Unrealistically High Expectations Syndrome, many posters here suffer from it. It goes something like: 1. If you get dropped at any point in your career by a journeyman: zero chin 2. If you get hit flush: zero defense 3. If you lose once: exposed 4. Lose twice: retire 5. If you dominate: you're ony fighting bums 6. If you go 12 rds with journeyman: you suck cuz you should haVe gotten a KO1. 7. If you lose a decision: you were schooled 8. Beat a quality old guy: the guy was past it and shot 9. Beat a quality young guy: the guy was a hype-job
This has annoyed me for years.Just beacause a fighter loses a fight(even Amir Khan style)it does not mean they were overatted. It is a sport where styles make fights, big shots come from nowhere and end fights.Losing the 0 is all part of the sport.I think it is better for a fighter to lose early on in his career so he knows the feeling and is no longer bothered about protecting the 0 when he hits the top level.Guys like Hagler lost fights before becoming champ and he only got a draw in his first title shot.Nigel Benn is another example.Good fighters can lose fights and should not be written off or labled damaged goods because of a few defeats.
Sad to say but no fighter, no matter how good they are, can please everybody. This applies to life itself.
Yep. It's not just fans either, it's apparently TV networks, promoters etc. FFS, when 2 good fighters face each other, somebody (except the draw of course) is going to lose. I would rather a guy have a 41-3 record, and fight a host of other top level fighters, than a 47-0 record made up of tomato cans and gimme fights.
To be honest. You get that in all sports. For example, USC it's a massive college football school that has been the best team this decade. USC is having an "off year" and the boards where I go talk SC sports some of the "fans" wan to get rid of Pete Carroll, the head coach. It's just the society we live, as mentioned before in this thread, everything is exaggerated. In any sport, a win and all of a sudden your king of the castle, a loss, and all of a sudden you are a bum. Everyday, you get a taste of that through the media, message boards, etc. it's spread everywhere. It's in all sports, not just Boxing.
Because Kessler had 0 moments in his fight and many were saying he was the best pound for pound fighter in the game.
This bs attitude is KILLING the sport and encouraging fighters to have glossy built up records against safe and harmless competition. Gone is the old school notion that if you're undefeated, you haven't learned nothin yet, to once you lose you're a sucky hyped up never was or will be protected bum killer who will disintegrate when caught flush by a real fighter.
because a lot of people on this ESB site are wankers. Great fighters usually lose at some point. Its boxing. how many times did SRR lose. Willie pep, they are still some of the greatest. if you fight the best you are bound to lose. its the body of work of a fighter when he hangs them up that will decide just how great he was.
sorry for ridiculing these fighterz but i felt they were loserz now i realized im the loser and i should of been ridiculing myself all this time let me guess santa claus aint real either ?
Your first mistake is assuming most of the posters on this site are boxing fans. Learn to use your ignore list and you lose a lot of the noise. :yep
