People are always too quick to claim that the 'chin' is at fault. Maybe Linares does have bad punch resistance (I don't really follow his career), but what about defence? If you have a great defence you can get away with it. You're not even supposed to be taking repeated shots to win -- that's a sign that something is wrong. Hit and don't get hit. From what I saw, Linares has a decent offence but his defence consists of leaning away from shots or turning his head with the blow, trying to roll with it. He clearly needs more than that. Look at Khan -- his defence is also bad, but his style of tucking up behind a guard works better for him than trying to lean away or roll with the shots. Speaking of Khan, I was reminded of him when I watched Linares get caught by Thompson's overhand right. That's the same shot Khan got shaken by when he fought Maidana. Khan was almost stopped in that round, too. It does seem to be too much of a coincidence that Khan, Pac and Linares all have defensive problems. Pac can get away with them against most people because he has a great chin and he's simply a better fighter than the other two. Khan and Linares, however, need to address it. Khan needs to focus on defence on the inside as well as tactics to neutralise infighters, while Linares needs to work on pretty much every possible area of defence. He'd probably be best served by switching to a different trainer, because Roach seems to emphasise offence.
Got caught, bad cut. Seem he could have recuperated from the kds... Bad D and bad luck... No need to hate... some tards here.
He needs to develop a defence that suits him. A more simple style, fighting behind a high guard maybe? He doesn't seem comfortable trying to roll with the punches, so blocking them rather than avoiding them might be an answer. He doesn't have the durability to get away with a bad defence. A move from the WildCard might be necessary. It's frustrating because he can fight beautifully at times; his offense and combinations are poetry-in-motion.
He has a Glass Jaw. Just goes to show you can have all the skills in the World but if you don't have a Chin it doesn't matter.
You summed up perfectly what the problem is with Linares: he's brilliant and flashy offensively, like you said beautiful to watch - poetry in motion Offensively he has it all. But boxing is not artistic ice skating, so it's not about beauty, you need a defense to be sucessful, and I think this aspect of this game has been underdeveloped: his head movements are almost non existent, he does not parry punches, he does not clinch efficiently when hurt, his guard is too loose, he has little defensive reflexes I still believe he can learn some defense with time and dedication
Fishy stoppage tbh but Linares shouldn't have been on ***** street and knocked down by such a boxer in the first place.
I agree wholeheartedly. It is an absolute disgrace that so many people don't know a Glass Jaw when it is thrust in their face!:roflatsch
Yes...Yes...and Yes. Plenty of examples of boxers like these in history, so when it happens, it's surprising but it really should not be.
