He said he felt giving blood was unnatural and thought it may weaken him. I'm sure if he was prone to anemia or thought he was he would have said so.
To detect HGH, there is simply no way at todays technology to do it. EPO is not easy to detect as well because these occur naturally in our bodies but their effects could be manifested by simply checking for hematocrit, or the proportion of red cell with regards to toal blood volume. It is indirect test and also a good test for autologous blood transfusions. However, modern test apparently can determine the difference between naturally erythropoietin and recombinant or artificially made one. Steroids are esay to detect as they are detectable using urine test. The only difference is different steroids have different half lifes, some days others week. Probably the best protocol is the least invasive one (even NFL and other organizations acknowledge these). If Mayweather has any concerns with the known drugs (forget drugs that we do not know because we cant test themn either) then they can easily make a ertain timeframe when to test by simply studying pharmacodynamics. There are not lots of drugs that enhance performance. With regards to steroids, probably around 20, plus there are masking agents that needs to be detected as well. Random urine would suffice, plus an after the fight blood test (immediately after the fight). To appease Mayweater, probably a 30 day, and a random 2 weeks before the fight is added. Even a daily blood test would not be any different than these one in terms of detecting PEDS.
Thanks for that.:good Do you think Floyd & Co. suggested the USADA handle the testing because they believed they had the best available protocol?
It should be a syringe since they will be testing different kinds of drugs. A ***** of blood will not be enough.
The problem with syringes is that they injure the muscles. Taking a blood sample just a few days before the fight can definitely affect their performance. This will be more magnified in Pac's case because he relies on his power to win fights wherein Floyd just rely on his defense to win his fights.
The protocol is only as good as the technology used to detect those drugs. The problem with doping technology is that there are only limited clientele that uses it as compared to say testing for diabetes, or any other common diseases. Therefore, research and technologies are not essentially pursued by multinational to make it, but rather by small university based researcghers. Therefore technology does not actually leap in bounds but crawl. HGH has been known since 1989 yet it took them until Beijing to finally say they conquered it (still no positive results). USADA does not have better detection rate than say the Tour de france, or infact, even the Australian. The protocols can not be compared scientifically, meaning idf using this protocol, would it detect more or less vis a vis another protocol, in order to say it is better. It os as wild guess as any protocol. What is certain is that the protocol is invasive and intrusive. But as to how it compares to other protocols, it's everybody's guess. The idea of USADA doing the test is strange. For one, the USADA did not even gave a statement accepting that resposibility, simply because it is an amateur body with no jurisdiction in professional boxing. The protocol is just a protocol (how to do things) and if Mayweather had requested that NSAC folowed USADA protocol (which I believe should have been done instead of adamantly insisting that only USADA do the test), then this controversy should have been avoided. Although NSAC migh find it unusual to go against their usual protocol, but that was not tested as an avenue. And if NSAC did not accede to that request, then a proper arbitration should have been done, instead of a narrow-mindedness insistence that USADA and USADA alone should do the test. There are issues of impartiality of USADA as well raised by Arum. A third impartial body should be acceptable like the organiztion mentioned by Pac's party that could do the test using the USADA protocol.
Bull****. They don't go through the muscles to get to veins. You're confusing drawing blood from an easily accessable vein just under the skin with an intramuscular injection. Both rely on their speed, power, skill, smarts, endurance, etc. To say either of them rely solely on one of those is ****ing stupid.
LETS SEE: Testing Random (5ml of blood)=$50 mil payday Not Testing = casting a big doubt + a fight w/Malignaggi Testing + Testing Positive = No huge payday , Career over, Legacy Over, Humiliation, POLITICAL CAREER END, Embarrassment, + much more hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... to be or not to be... You make the math!! TBH, if was Pac, I would go w/Malignaggi as well... that is, unless I wasn't on PED'S...
Most of the time, blood taking is uneventful, more psychological than anything else. However, if the colledctor botched the process, you end up with hematomatomas, or bruises or a sore arm. At the extreme, nerve injury might happen. Journal regarding nerve injuryt caused by phlebotomy : http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1847431/ I am sure I can find you more than 10 if i try.
Their performance will still be affected. Why don't you try to punch after some needle was stuck in your arm. Don't we want them to be 100% in the fight night?
