I remember rumors that he was way older than stated. Some of it stemmed that he was sparring David Izon when he was supposedly 12 or 13 years old which sounds insane, but who knows it's possible. However if he was closer to 18 then he is probably his his mid to upper 40's now. I don't really have a source I am just remember from conversations floating around years ago.
Fighters get old and faded. We all get old eventually. I took a liking to Sam Peter after I heard this: This content is protected Trivia question: what boxer was working Sam Peter's corner during his fight with Vitali Klitschko?
I was about to post the same thing. He was declined by Wladimir II, but after that fight he was shot to pieces. At his best he was a tough and powerful fringe contender. In his prime would have made for good fights against guys like Andy Ruiz, Dubois, Stiverne, et al. It's a shame the HW division had no depth at that time, because he ended up alternating between bloated porpoises like Toney to soul crushers like the Klits. He needed the in between guys which didn't exist then.
Vitali beat his ass bad. That was the end of the line for Peter, who is now most likely brain damaged and should not be fighting any more.
What's wrong with him is that his actual age is closer to 50 and he has been an old man for well over a decade now in boxing terms. Those Nigerians passports are like Cuban passports, if you can't qualify for citizenship and a pension then at least you can steal another 10-15 years in the workplace; no biggie if you're a big giant strong black dude I guess. BTW did anyone see Ike Ibeabuchi when he was "23 years old" against Byrd? He looked older than my 70 year old dad
At 6'2, I think he'd struggle against a lot of the bigger HW nowadays, abit like he did against the Klits. Would be abit like Chisora - lots of heart but just not enough skill.
