whats wrong with uk trainers.

    im sick of hearing people on here saying that fighters need the us and us trainers every time a boxer looks bad or out of shape or whatever, hey james toney had the best u s trainers, how come no one says he needs a so called better trainer, maybe we should send all our boxers on a plane to america just bring em back just before their fights and the jobs done. they will all be lean as thomas hearns, skillfull as ray leoneard etc, them u s trainers never have a loser?.:huh:huh

    I think its more to do with better sparring being available out in the US.

    yes its the quality of sparring and being away from home comforts it makes fighters hungry and therfore they instictivly work hat little bit harder

    good point, though a thought ive had is if a fighters having trouble beating his uk opponents would he not do better to spar them, and save himself some money, have you noticed that not many british champs go to spar in us for title defenses?:good

    The sparring is better in the States.

    A decent journeyman in the States would whip a fringe top 3 British domestic contender.

    Plus the American trainers are calm and talk to the fighter - none of the shite that we saw in the Jeffries debacle.

    Its not without its merits but too often the cliche "he needs to go to America" is just trotted out as sage advice when it may not be the best course of action for a fighter.

    arnie, good to hear from you, would you say that on average u.s trainers have many more potential fighters come through their doors, being a much bigger country, or should i say continent, so they have more natural talent to pick from, were a uk trainer will take what he's got and try to install boxing technique, i think the uk and ireland do very well as you could put us into texas alone about 6 times. :good

    to be fair not many undercard fights with the class of jeffries opponent would be on u.s. national tv, unless your a mayweather or considered red hot you wouldent get the air time.:good

    There are some real quality trainers in the UK. Guys like Robert McCracken, Jimmy Tibbs, Jim Evans, John Breen, Billy Nelson (not kissing his arse because he posts here, I've seen him in action first hand so speak from what I know) amongst many other top guys, and plenty of young trainers coming up.

    America is a far, far bigger place, and believe me, for every Emanuel Steward, Freddie Roach, Nazim Richardson etc there are about a dozen showers of shite too. Just like over here, there are some top trainers and some **** ones. So I don't understand where this general belief that America has superior trainers as a general rule comes from.
    You say to me Steward, I'll say Pepe Correa. You say to me Roach I'll say Jack Loew.

    As has been pointed out, the main benefits of training in America is the huge variety in sparring available (simply better than what we can offer in terms of variety and quantity just because of the comparitve size in populations). If we had has much resources in the UK as they do in the US, then I'm sure you would see our British based trainers getting more credit too.
