UK guys just seem to find it difficult at the level above Euro. Mostly, they NEED sparring against different fighters which they'll get in the US. In the US you have slick guys from all over the world as immigrants, with plenty more across the border in Mexico, you're near Puerto Rico and there are plenty of Euro style guys up in Canada. Basically, if you train in Miami or LA, the chances of coming across every different sort of fighter are much higher. You train with better guys, you get more experience, so the skill gaps is less apparent. Katsidis-Mitchell is a great example. Kevin only expected Katsidis to come forward. When he made Kevin lead, he didn't know what to do to come forward intelligently, so he ended up walking onto Katsidis' shots. Then, when he got hurt he tried to fight his way out of it because he'd never been in with such a high-class pressure fighter before. If he'd spent time in LA gyms, he'd have seen that style before. If Tibbs had been with him, they could have developed a plan seeing how he was dealing with that style. But the sparring over here wasn't enough.
i rate brendon ingle as being as good at his job as any u.s trainer, he's took a lot of local boxers to all title levels from the late 70s he had herol graham, brian anderson in the 80s he persevered with johny nelson, i seen tidy class boxers spar graham in his pump, and litraly, they couldent hit him, he was phenominal defensively, and the ingles have carried it through to present, kell brook, junior witter, etc . they are intitled to be classed alongside any u.s. trainer s.
I like Oliver Harrison. Several times at ringside I have listened to him calmly instructing his guys through a fight - encouraging them with excellent advice - particularly to the inexperienced fighter who is up against it.
the u.s. is a continent, were a group of islands, it would be fairer to compare the full of europe to u.s. ., that creates a different picture, who trained pirog, i know jacobs will have had a top u,s. trainer, wheres the cries for jacob to go to russia.:huh
