Boxing has brought me many great experiances and some fantastic nights, but this takes some beatin.
In oct 93, my mate Warren Stowe was fighting in a LM british title elliminator,at old trafford football stadium manchester,on the under card to Benn v Eubank 2. I had tickets for the fight, but at the morning weigh-in, tried to blagg myself a ringside seat for warrens fight, and ende up with one of the best seats in the stadium. One of Frank Warrens pr women said she could get me a security pass on 1 condition, that i helped out in the corners, passing ice and water up to the trainers.
Although Warren lost his fight on a close decision to Paul Wessley, and with it a crack at Rob McCraken, I had a great night.:yep
I helped Robin Reids corner, a few under card fights including Warrens corner, helped Barney Eastwood in Crisanto Espana's world welterweight fight. In between fights i'm up on the ring apron tryin to get my mates attention:happy:happy who were gutted,up in the bleachers.I shook Don Kings hand, met Frank Bruno,Lennox Lewis,Barry Mcguigan,Sam Fox(she was fit then) and many more stars.then realised i was helpingJimmy Tibbs and Peter Defratas in Nigel ****in Benns corner, one of my atf british boxers.
The fight did'nt live up to expectations, ending in a contraversial draw, but its the best fight ive ever attended.
As the rounds went by i was getting more involved in the corner, and eventually was up on the ring giving Nigel his water. At the end of the 10th he asked me to make the water colder,so i was puttin loads of ice in the water bottles betwee rnds. After the 11th whilst giving him his ice-cold water he sked me to pour it on his head,so i emptied the ****in lot over him.Jimmy Tibbs went mentle as the water spilled all over the canvas, but nigel turned to me, winked, and said 'fakin brilliant mate':goodI was buzzin. Met both Benn and Eubank after the fight, top blokes both.
What a night to tell my grand kids about eh.:bbb

    As a spectator:

Standing as a photographer on the ring while Valuev, leaning on the ropes almost fell over the top rope in a fight vs. Gerals Nobles some years ago. I was completely shitting in my pants that he falls down on me. I saw only his hairy back shadowing my place........

As an active boxer: My first KO-win as an amateur. Hell the punch wasn´t hard at all, but somehow right on the lights out button.

For me it was sitting with my dad as a kid and watching the fights on TV. I never enjoyed boxing all that much back then but it was nice spending time with him watching boxing.

I didn't get into boxing until the late 1990's. I can't remember what fight it was but I was totally amazed and became interested in boxing after that. In fact it is the only sport I follow and I follow it religiously. It's great now because I can discuss the fights with my dad. I don't have much in common with him but boxing has brought us closer together.

having just moved to NYC for a bit, me and my wife-to-be at the time were looking desperately to watch the vitali lewis fight. we found this awesome, dingy basement bar that was full of russians and the fight was on, but there was no audio. only standing room was left, so we stood in this big pack of awed silence at the incredible fight that was taking place. hard to explain, but it was magical.

i have about another dozen amazing boxing experiences, but i think this one wins by the magical trance like state that it cast over all of us who were there.

Ringside at Calzaghe-Lacy. We were sat behind Hatton and Billy Graham and were a couple of seats down from Rod Stewart (in a kilt???). Me and the lads were hammered and started singing maggy may at the top of our voices. He just turned round and said "cheers boys". The main event as we all know was a fantastic example of a boxing masterclass and was as exciting as it gets. The undercard was a strong one and the atmosphere electric. The crowning moment in the whole night though was when we were watching the post fight interview. We were stood right under the boom mic and just feet from lacy when my drunken mate Pete in his thick Scottish accent shouted "Fu**in hell have you seen the state of his face?" The HBO fellas went nuts at him and Jeff Lacy weren't too happy either. His face was a picture... Pricless

I can't top the first story, but one of my favourite memories was one of my first spar's at my old club. i dont want to sound like i think im the next coming of roy jones junior because im far from it! But there was this rainy n bitterly cold evening, nothing special about it and i was in this dingy old gym putting on the gloves.

my heart was going, sweaty hands and everyfin. Me and this kid were the best 2 from our age group in the gym n we had been eyeing eachother up for weeks, knowing we'd have to fight eachother soon but i remeber looking across at him in the corner, not being sure how this one was gonna pan out. Soon as the trainer said "away you go" the adrenaline kicked in big time! we met in the centre of the ring and made a few speedy exchanges. soon after that i started to take over. a few fast 1-2's 1-2-3s, my quick feet and my parrying was spot on. i remeber just teeing him off with these quick 1-2-3's "bang bang bang" and moving. And that was it. it seemed as quick as that spar was over. I got a well done from the trainer and some looks of astonishment from the other boxers but nothing more.

i know it was just a spar and not that important to the trainer and to you lot it doesnt matter in at all but 2 me, as a kid then, it might aswell have been the ABA's. The rush i got out of it was amazing. I fell in love with the sport instantly and that's what's led me to here. Now i follow boxing religiously and this site has become my bible. So to speak. If i wouldda got my head caved in it probably wouldnt have been the same lol.

Maybe 5-7 years ago (sorry its vague) i was stood outside Man City's old stadium on a matchday waiting for my mate to arrive. While im waiting, a relatively unknown at the time, Ricky Hatton pulls up on the car park. After watching his fight the night before on sky, i was surprised to see him there. I just said hello and congratulated him on his previous nights work. He seemed genuinely surprised that i knew who he was! (I was about 18 at the time) I said to him that he would do well fighting like that and that i was a fan that had seen him fight before on tv. He was a really nice bloke. He thanked me for my support, i shook his hand and wished him all the best!
It is weird to look back, seeing him walking around the stadium without being bothered. How things have changed! He would be treated like a God at a man city game these days!
I also met his dad, Ray, a few weeks ago. Got a photo and both agreed that Ricky would beat Pacman!

Some nice stories on here. I've got a couple, but there not on the level with the first story.

1: Figuring out how to beat a kid in the gym who had been boxing my ears off for a long time. He was a slippery little *******, but I finally figured out I should just stop trying to box with him, walk him down and kick has ass. He was a minor star and used to fight on an amature boxing show on TV, so it felt real good.

2: When I was in the Navy we used to have what we called "Smokers." I was a lowly Seaman and I walked around at about 155. I challenged a Chief Petty Officer who was a heavywieght, and if it hadn't been for the 16 ounce gloves I would have knocked his ass out! So, as a lowly Seaman I beat the crap out of a Chief, and it was perfectly legal!

I've watched Boxing all my life and usually cheered for the favorite ie. Tyson, Chavez, De la hoya, but when Trinidad rose up....I never liked him. I could never explain why.

Here I am, this 13 year old kid from a hispanic family that vehemently supported a fellow hispanic Boxer, and I couldn't stand the guy. Everytime we would watch any of his fights I would hope to hell that he got knocked out.....and for a while it seemed damn near impossible.

De la hoya came next. I won't even say anything about that one.

William Joppy came after. Another dissapointment.

Then this 36 year old Middleweight I'd never heard about was challenged. I didn't know quite what to think about him at first but when I saw him throw Trinidad's PR flag to the ground I was like "this guy is ****ing badass".

Fight night came. Family members gathered around my living room for the big event. I was once again anxiously hoping that Trinidad would get crushed.

The fight starts. Immediately I noticed that he won't be having such an easy time with this guy. I start to ignore the amazingly biased commentary by George Foreman and my uncle lol.

The middle rounds begin.....and I'm so happy....this old Hopkins guy is completely dominating Trinidad...I never thought I'd see the day.

As the championship rounds began and Hopkins was dominating more as the rounds passed I began worrying again. Not for a comeback from Trinidad but for the Judges scorecards, of course.

I mean here is this heavily favoured supestar going to a decision....who wouldn't worry about that? Even if he was getting his **** pushed in.

The mystical 12 round starts. Hopkins is just Making Trinidad look a fool in there and i'm so damn happy.

Hopkins fakes the right uppercut, as Trinidad attempts to counter, this monstrous left lands on Trinidad's chin and he goes tumbling down. Everyone is in shock. I jump from my chair, Trinidad's dad enters the ring, the ref waves it off, Hopkins is laying on the canvas celebrating. He becomes one of my all time favorite Boxers.

I just remember being dazzled at the Boxing skills that Hopkins showed. I became an even bigger boxing fan and gained a much greater appreciation for the sweet science.

    My favorite Boxing experience.
