    I've got a great question that I know the answer to but cant find the question part, read it in a boxing book or magazine a few weeks ago and now cant remember where

    Hmm thats a good one now, i'll look in to him some more.

    The name i was looking for was Mike Schreck. A rather average Heavyweight who fought Langford and Tommy Burns. Debut in 1899. Hes widely regarded as the first southpaw but its very possible that there was more

    I thought back then they tried to discourage the southpaw stance, thinking that it "was the wrong way round."

    I remember reading an article about fighters from around that time being natural southpaws, but being "trained into" using an orthodox stance. I can't think of any examples at the minute though.
