Im not a big fan of Calzaghe but hard to pick anyone other than those guys picked given that time period.
Bottom line. Ali...tyson..hopkins...may...pac No other fighters accomplished what they have. Ali = greatest Tyson = youngest most dangerous heavyweight of all time Hopkins = ageless wonder...oldest to ever win a championship. Unmatched boxing knowledge. May = master of the ring. Master of defence. Unmatched skill and poise against any style. First athlete to make 100 mil+ in one night! Pac = compelling rags to riches story. offensive tornado. Rematch and trilogy king. (Besides Marquez). also jumped 6 diffrent weight classes. Which no one has ever done.
If I could have a British version then Audley Harrison, David Price, Amir Khan and David Haye's little Toe. It would crumble in a strong wind but I bet it would look great while it lasted.
I don't understand why people keep putting jones on the list since the start of 1996 he's 34-9. Losing a trilogy to Tarver. Bested by Calzaghe and stopped 5 times.
Last 25 years: Manny, Floyd, Jones Jr., Whitaker All time: Robinson, Leonard, Ali, one of many possibilities: Duran, Pep, Louis or Johnson for me. I can't decide.
you're correct with your timeframe, but jones was as close to untouchable during his prime as any fighter has been. the first tarver loss signalled his return to mortality, so saying he was "bested by Calzaghe and stopped 5 times" was just lesser fighters being opportunistic
