The standalone Flynn footage no longer on tube...some of it in here, as well as the Lang fight already posted. Not at winning but he can make it competive with Hagler, I believe he'd give Monzon more trouble, but see Monzon taking over after the middle rounds in the Fight.
What I got from the footage; uppercuts reminiscent of Foreman, combinations Tyson-esque. 5'6; average weight (at Heavy) probably between 170-180. Fought the best at Lightweight (beat him) Welter (draw; some say win) middle (close ND, Langford 'carried' him) and a myriad of heavyweight contenders including a pre-prime Jack Johnson, who bottled it from Langford in his prime. Nearly blind in a lot of his later contests, the most feared puncher of his day, a terrific in[fighter, counter puncher, finisher and will a cast iron chin. He wasn't bad.
Greg fancies Hopkins there. Would be a very interesting fight. Especially considering Hop' was taller, and naturally bigger (24 hour weigh in's) than Monzon....one thing Monzon always used to great effect, was his frame. Been over the numerous stylistic quirks each bring to the table here, it hurts my head to call it. Monzon over 15 in a classic chess match I imagine. Hagler would probably grind out a decision. Hopkins' crafty boxing would cause him hassle, but Marv' was raised on cagey, intelligent and well-schooled Phili' stylists, I reckon he'd outpunch Hop' down the stretch to win a close, and probably debatable, decision. I don't rate Hopkins' as high as those guys for middleweight 'greatness', but he's certainly a H2H force at the weight, as are the two mooted opponents for him here. They're tentative picks though, as the likes of Benton, Mims, Carter, Griffith, Tiger, Rodriguez, Kalambay, RJJ, Robinson, Steele, Marshall, yada yada yada, are also capable H2H and could feasibly squeeze a decision or land a crafty punch. Any of them could win or lose against each other how many times you wish to choose, middleweight is stacked historically. I would say B-Hop matches up on film to those guys. A old school operator.
