Curious how many golden age posters we have left here.

First TV fight was Ali vs Shavers.

My first fight I saw live was Berto vs Ortiz 1.

The earliest fight someone told me about was Pep vs Saddler (by Pep).

    Me:
1)The Rock vs Walcott 2 live on TV in the early 50's.
2)Curtis Cokes vs Jean Josselin physically live in Dallas in 1966 for WW title.

3)"Joe Louis exhibitions" on a WW2 Army Air Force base per my Dad, when Joe Louis
took on the Base / Division Champ (who might have been an actual boxing pro
who had enlisted in the Service.)

Hi mate, my grandpa saw Archie Moore stop Ron Richards in Sydney in 1940.

The old fella went to his grave saying that Moore was the best fighter he ever saw in the flesh or on film.

    Cheers All

The first fight I ever saw live was Hec Thompson vs Joe Tetteh 3 , July 1973 Brisbane.

The crowd hooted the decision for Thompson and I remember my dad telling me that " Hec was a bit fortunate, son ".

Mike Weaver vs John Tate. It was a memorable one. Boxing has a way of grabbing you as a fan. You almost dont have a choice.

First TV heavyweight championship fight was Floyd Patterson - Brian London. I had seen many Wednesday Night and Friday Night fights back in the 50s but don't remember specifically any before Patterson-London, but they included the likes of Gene Fullmer, Yama Bahama, Dick Tiger, etc.

First live main event fight was Jerry Quarry - Ken Norton at Madison Square Garden, NYC in March, 1975.

I'm drawing a blank on the earliest fight anyone told me they saw live, but my grandfather and uncle saw Max and Buddy Baer training in Lakewood, NJ. My uncle also saw Max Baer box an exhibition for the troops in San Francisco during WW2 when both he and Baer were in the army. My father also saw Buddy Baer in Lakewood.

I've served someone at work a few times who says he's Llyod Honeyghan's cousin. Claimed to have put 2 grand on him at 12/1 for the Don Curry fight... His words not mine. That being said, we've spoken about his biggest fights in quite explicit detail and he was very sincere throughout the discussions, so I don't really have any reasons to be sceptical.

first live fight I went to was Liston--Patterson 1. My family had been going to big fights for 50 years & my grandfather went to Jack Dempsey bouts. Then, he took my father to Joe Louis fights.
