except for great movement, a great right hook, and blinding speed that will really help with his counterpunching. if he starts timing cotto's jab and judging distance with accuracy cotto's gonna have a hard time avoiding those quick counter punches... cotto's gonna need to change up his rhythm often.
That's what confuses me. Because not so long ago, the thought of Pac getting in the ring with Cotto was deemed insanity. Pac has done what not a regular boxer would likely do. He's put himself to the limit by consistently looking for the best fights out there, may it be for money or legacy. This fight with Cotto is a dangerous move, even at a catchweight. Cotto will be a lot bigger on fight night, take away a pound if you like, and Pac will definitely not gain so much just to compensate with the mass difference. He will still rely on his speed. Pac better have a perfect night to pull thru with this one. He should be the underdog , gunning for his 7th division.
Your list pretty much sums it up for Cotto. His success imo will be predicated on how effective he is with his jab. If he enjoys success off of his jab then everything else could very well align for him scoring a stoppage.
well you have to understand, nobody thought pac would be able to sucessfully move up in weight and continue to be devestating. having said that, pacquiao chin still has yet to be tested at 140 and above. dlh, who was to big to be at 147, counldnt do a thing and hatton didnt do much better. cotto is a better fighter then hatton and posses more skills and unlike dlh, is not fighting outside of his division. so you got a point in a sense, that cotto shouldnt be dismissed but you can see why people are people are favoring pac due to his level of dominance as of late as well as the prospect of pac exposing cotto's vulnerabilities
Look dude... It ain't no secret tha Cotto isn't exactly my favorite fighter in the world... (More like my least) But even I can see that Cotto is too much for Pac. I have said it 100 times, and I'll say it again. If you judge This content is protected based on his performance against Joshus Clottey, 99 times out of 100 you will be sadly mistaken. He has a way of making everyone he fights look off their game. Cotto looked as good as anyone could hope to against him. He will be able to take Pac's punches and deliver some shots that Pac didn't see against De la Hoya or Hatton. Let's be for ****in real here!
Well timed jab is most important. Cotto is actually left-handed so his jab can not just off-set Pacquiao's timing but it's damaging. He can't let himself get frustrated with Pac-man's speed early in the fight. Just stay consistent and keep walking him down with patience. Things will open up within a few rounds. Defensively, just keep the gloves up and work on not letting anything get down the middle (this has been a problem before). Watch for Pac to try Zab like upper-cuts also. Stop refusing to clinch! Make Pacquiao feel his physical strength, not just punching power, to wear him down. Pac doesn't like getting roughed up on the inside or being there! He could possibly make him quit. That would be amusing...... Don't chase Pac around. Lure him in if he has to and time him if he's getting hard to catch with something. Be basic. Simple one-two's will hit Pac. Jab blinds him, then you can drill him. JMM landed it when he wanted, made him do the chicken. lol Don't get too aggressive too early. You can still be hurt bad early. Most dangerous time of the fight for him. Don't come out "cold". Body shots are great, but don't go reaching for them. You'll get countered with the hook just like Ricky Flatten.
Good call Jeff -- time Pac with a simple 1-2 right down the pipe. If he buzzes Pac a little, attack the body. Wash, rinse, repeat. A few rounds of this and Pac will start to show vulnerability. When he does, go to war!
I totally agree. If Pac couldnt finish Marquez off in their fights, what chance does he have of stopping Cotto? Let me remind you that their first fight took place at 126 lbs. Cotto will weigh in at well over 150 lbs come fight night. Another thing, Cotto took a lot of punishment during his fight against Margarito and wasnt even knocked down. Shane Mosley couldnt do it either. It took Pacquiao 9 rounds to finish David Diaz off and he had no defense whatsoever. He took Manny's best punches for 9 rounds. 9 rounds. Cotto's defense is much better than Diaz's and he's bigger than him too. Manny fought a punching bag in Oscar de la Hoya and didnt knock him down either. Pacquiao's about to go for a swim in shark-fested waters...
