Alot of people overlook this point when they look at the JMM fight. Everytime pacquiao got an inch of advantage JMM would fire of a 4-5 punch combo. You cant let pacquiao get ahead and get his rhythm. After Amir Khan sparred with manny he said you have to go punch for punch with him to get any sort of advantage. I still think cotto is too stationary to beat pacquiao, he showed some quick feet in the gomez fight but i havent seen it after that. Also another poster made a crucial point and that is, cotto needs to design his punches to land not ko. The aim should be to break pacquiao down not rush him like some bum. Cotto needs to make his extra weight and size a factor in this fight, and clinch the guy even if you get hit once or twice. A 148lb man is going to get tired when a 160lb man is continually mauling him. Finally, cotto needs to get pacquiaos respect early, maybe even in the first round. If manny believes either you cant hurt him or you cant hit him cleanly, he will tee off on you. Marquez and morales both managed to do this. Marquez in the second fight caught pacquiao with a huge left hook in the second round. Morales just plain outfought him with his superior chin and strength.
Hide in turtle mode in the turnbuckle so Manny HAS to come near the turnbuckle. When he's in close enough, clinch, and spin him around, so he's trapped in the turnbuckle, and pummel him as hard as you can with your chin tucked firmly under Repeat as necessary
use a strong jab and throw pacquiao off course. pacquiao cannot fight effectively when there is a strong jab thrown at him as morales and marquez showed. move forward. cotto has to take the fight to pacquiao and move forward and cut off the ring. punish the body mercifully. cotto needs to concentrate of pacquiao's body and throw double left hooks (body to head). once pacquiao feels his power he'll think twice about engaging cotto and will resort to backing up.
