I couldn't have said it better myself. You can look good against inferior fighters, but when you meet a peer, that is when we will find out if you are the goods. Berto is faster than I originally thought, but I want to see what happens when a guy takes his best, deals with his speed, makes it a long, drawn out fight.

As a guy who's absolutely certain that Berto should be in the third category I'd say it's a pretty bad sign so many are uncertain overall. I'd rather see Berto do well. Hope I'm wrong.

He's been good so far, but its still too early to determine if he will be an ATG or not. Dont wanna make the same mistake we did with Cotto

Wow... Cotto's been in the ring with some very talented men. Berto fought Steve Forbes. You shouldn't sell Cotto so short.

Yes, he has, but he's no ATG like many were saying. But he is good. Like I said, Steve Forbes is NOBODY, he's just a blown up lightweight. Berto beating Forbes does NOTHING for me, thats like PW beating Verno.

Hijacking this thread for a moment.

Do you think Cotto could still reach ATG status? What if he avenges his defeat to Margarito? What, in your mind is an ATG? Top 50 fighter?

Edit: For the record, I voted "Undecided" on Berto.

Well, in my eyes, he will never be an ATG because I see him always getting outboxed whenever he's faced with a slick boxer, in a few years Berto will get at him if Berto continues to develope correctly. But if he avenges his loss against AM, that win will be better than AM's win over him. He's only 5'7", and I dont see him moving up in weights, not even to 154, therefore he's not gonna be able to accomplish things most of the other top 50 ATG's accomplished! I got respect for him, but I just dont see him being an ATG.

I agree somewhat. I just enjoy Cotto because he has so much pride and respect for the sport. I think he can become an ATG IF he avenges the AM loss and a few other fights fall into place and swing his way. He would have to face Williams :yikes and prob the winner of pacman/hatton or take on PBF.

Pac or Hatton wouldnt do him much good, he'd get criticized.
I NEVER see him beating Williams, unless he magicly improves alot more from where he is right now. & I hope he beats AM in the rematch, but do I think he will, I think its 70/30 for AM
