Meaning Hagler came in over 160 at the weigh-in because as we both know it was same day weigh-ins in those days?
Past the first Duran fight, Leonard was the ultimate ATG cherry picker. Made several retirements but always kept himself in the gym sparring and all waiting for the chance where a top flight fighter showed major vulnerabilities so he could announce he was coming out of retirement. Great fighter imo but I dont rank him in above many I've seen in my over 40 years as an avid fan of boxing.
You’re only as old as the woman you feel - if that helps any, which it may or may not do. It takes a few years off me anyway - not sugar daddy territory though. LOL.
Every time Ray made one of his comebacks I cringed. Not just for the cherry picking but the odds of his crashing and burning increased dramatically with each “next” fight, particularly given his age and sporadic activity. Barely dodged the bullet v Lalonde and Hearns but then came Norris…and then Camacho…too addicted to the limelight.
Yes over the weights fights. Hagler had 9 or so which technically put them at light heavy in those days regardless of where he was campaigning or how silly that sounds. The fact of the matter is that Hagler had numerous fights where he actually weighed more than SRL did when he fought Lalonde at Super Middleweight.
Interesting. Didn't know that. Hagler had the reputation of easily coming under 160. I am curious. Which fights are you referring to? Probably none of his defenses. I would be shocked to hear Hagler had weight issues in any of his defenses.
I pretty much can't stand Leonard. But he was defo shot in those 2 fights. You nailed it when you wrote he was addicted to the limelight. Nicely done. I had no empathy for Leonard when light punching Camacho hammered him. He knew just what he was getting into.
