Everything is a tko now because even if a guy is starched and is out on his back with no hope to rise, the ref often stops the count before he gets to 10 because the corner men and doctor are running into the ring.

The most brutal kos are often followed by the ref waiving it off before his count even gets to three or four.

In the old days everyone who Beterbiev TKOd would have been forced to continue only to be properly KOd a round later. Doesn't mean much other than they are trying to prevent some brain damage

A TKO is a KO. Period.

Just like in aviation, an emergency landing is nevertheless a successful landing if the plane lands safely.

No difference in my book if you beat a guy to the point they wave it of or you knock him out cold. If the ref or corner doesn’t wave it of it is just a matter of time on getting knocked out.

protecting the fighter from himself should be first priority. Letting guys like Aidos take a beating doesn’t do the fighter and the sport any good.

It's not like Beterbiev is racking up a bunch of Calzaghe style TKO stoppages. He's bludgeoning guys to the point that they're physically and mentally done. He knocks them all down. Sometimes they get up a few times and it all goes downhill fast. He has plenty of cold one-shot KO's, not to mention perhaps one of the most stylish KO's in boxing history against Campillo.

The distinction is meaningless. If anything, they should add a B for BTKO's where a british ref waves it off way too early.
