Best it's ever been. Loma, Inoue, Usyk. Rigo, Floyd, Ward from a few years back. Some of the best ever and all from the last 20 years.
In my experiences the ND fights I read about were often brutal affairs, certainly more violent than what we have today. Referees jump in way too fast nowadays, everyone complains about this. If refs started doing that in the 1920's, would you say they were fixed fights? If Fury-Wlad happened in the 1920's, would they be accused of going easy on each other?
I can pinpoint the moment I stopped being a rabid fan and that was all the clowning around between Bowe and Lewis. The fact that the two best heavyweights in the world in a no brainer fight didn't step in the ring bewildered me and made me wonder if the sport deliberately wanted to sabotage itself. Another instances of madness were the WBO recognising Francesco Damiani as heavyweight champion and the "title challenges" of Peter Manfredo and Bobby Gunn on the same bill of shame... There are some awesome fighters now but I have lived through too many disappointing match ups, unfulfilled promise, drugs and arrogance to give a sh*t now. Not the fighters fault (mainly) but I now focus on watching classics from the past and learning about fight history and old timers I never paid attention to. Sorry to sound like an old fart, it just depresses me the mess.
Ok, fair enough... so lets hear about these ND fights from back in the day, that were "certainly more violent", than what we see these days. Anything you can think of more brutal and violent than, for example: Troy Williamson vs Ted Cheeseman Josh Warrington vs Mauricio Lara 1 Leigh Wood vs Michael Conlan
Today there are more than twice as many active fighters, taking part in more than twice as many fights, compared to the '65-'85 era... so how does this indicate, that boxing has declined considerably since then?
I would not class either Ward or Floyd as best theres ever been. Ward is probably the dirtiest fighter for a very long time and the reason he got away with it was he would only fight at home, where he knew he wouldnt get bothered. Same with Floyd in Vegas his butt was covered & he knew it, As the saying goes among boxing fans Floyd was 4 rounds up before he left the dressing room LOL
Boxing was more violent even just 20 years ago - are you saying there hasn't been a recent influx of fights being stopped much faster?
There are good fighters but too many belts, too much talking,Tweeting? Watching guys hit the mitts. It's sunken lower than ever as far as what fans get.
What are you talking about? We're discussing your claim, that you know of ND fights from back in the day, that were much more brutal and violent than what we see today. Are you prepared to name any of those or not?
I said that from what I've read, I can recall many bouts that were brutal affairs and would be stopped quickly in our day. I am not going to name any, the info is out there.
You're making ridiculous requests, you want me to go through an entire year's worth of articles to find results to compare are you insane? You are asking for too much, you can't expect someone to do all that researching just prove an opinion on something. As far as your expectations go, how about this: read Compton's book on Greb, there's loads of ND quotes in there. Would that satisfy you?
You're right, asking you to go through the fights of a whole year, to compare to the 40 fights I put up - that was silly of me! That was too much to expect. But when you say: In my experiences the ND fights I read about were often brutal affairs, certainly more violent than what we have today... is it really unfair of me to ask, if you could give us a couple of examples? I don't think so!
