Wasn't he always pretty average? I mean, I doubt after he beat Taylor you all were thinking '"man, this guy is unbeatable". He's average, always has been and always will be. He won't win a belt at SMW because the SMW champs aren't as vulnerable as Taylor was.
At least he admits he needs work. He's a realist I give him props for that. He was missing the bounce in his toes he showed in his last fight.
He's not ready for the big boys. Looked sluggish and is pushing that right with no snap on it. His left looks good but it takes more than that to beat the best. His mind seems to be finally right but the body isn't cooperating
I think shot is a bit of an over-exaggeration. From what I've seen of his comeback, thus far, he's a level below elite. Contender sort of status, the left hook was nice, something he'd been working on in Oxnard but… he's too one-paced for me. If he's going to stay at 168 I think he'd overcome guys like Rosinsky and Rodriguez but I really can't see him hanging with Ward, Froch or even Kessler. Bute could probably pick him off. Oosthuizen could be an intriguing match-up. I also wouldn't mind seeing him against George Groves. I think Pavlik will end up as a sort of prospect checker.
I believe he'd do a hell of a lot better against Froch and Bute than anybody gives credit for. Now Ward and Dirrell, could be serious problems. Style thang.
I'm not sure. Physically he's looked pretty good against completely over-matched opponents. It's hard to say where he is mentally, because he hasn't been in a tough fight.
His "mission" was to look good so he could get a big fight after this, not try new things and get some quality rounds.
That was Kelly's stated mission. Since Kelly is a local I follow him fairly closely. Kelly pretty much admitted after the fight he can't pull the trigger anymore. He said that Rosinsky offered him the same shot that scored the KD but he was 'too lazy' to take it. I think his timing and anticipation were lacking. You see and react. If he has to think about it he is done.
I don't hate pavlik. I was a fan of his fighting style but he ruined himself when he got derailed. A defeat can do that to fighters to be a true champion who can come back from defeat you need to be strong mentally. Something that is obviously missing from Kelly.......
