What do you expect from a guy trying to start the "Mayweather Mafia".

I haven't seen the Cotto fight more than once, but I thought Clottey lost because he gave away the last couple of rounds. But I think he did the most damage in that fight and looked stronger than Cotto. Still fights are won on rounds.

The Baldomir fight he was winning until he got DQ'd. The Margarito fight, he was doing quite well before the injury.

He's a good fighter and has never been convincingly beaten. I wanted a Clottey vs Margarito rematch actually. But oh well.

I think the only average thing about Clottey is his punching power. He has a solid tight defence, good hanspeed, he´s strong and tough. On the other hand he has a poor workrate, and doesn´t always seem to be there mentally. He´s very hard to beat, but he rarely looks impressive winning himself. I think he´s an elite fighter, just not the very best.

Clottey is a solid B fighter nothing more nothing less. He can compete with the elite but not beat them.

This post right here. That's why. He's not decent/average, not at all. He's at least GOOD. And then you talk about his chin and mention the Cotto knockdown. Have you seen it? Purely an off balance knockdown.

Because in round 4 (or 5) and 6 Cotto had a few stretches where he broke through the guard and was absolutely teeing off with everything he had and we saw the real life Clottey-Bobble head doll. And Clottey shook it off like he he just needed to sneeze.

I am a big fan of Josh Clottey, however styles make fights and in this case the style is good for Manny. If you add to this the PED factor it is perfect for Manny. Clottey is a good fighter. Has a solid skill set. Clottey's "issues" are basically intangibles.

He puts up the hands, but he doesn't place them in a way where defense creates offense. He waits. Against a guy as busy as Manny this could lose him rounds. He also fades. Again, great given the current climate, perfect for Manny. Then you have him giving fights away (see Cotto). He cruises knowing darn well he WON'T get a decision.

So I don't write Clottey off. I hope he can win it. I just look at it in a certain perspective given current events. Manny won't have to test and Arum gets his managment money for both fighters. By not fighting Mayweather the only people losing are the fans.

Clottey went twelve hard ones with Margarito when Margarito was probably plastering up with a broken hand half the fight and was never hurt. Him getting dropped by Cotto's jab was Cotto taking advantage of Clottey being slightly off-balance at the right moment, and he was never hurt in that fight as well. It's safe to say he has at the least very good punch resistance.

In terms of his level, he's a top five Welter and by no means an easy fight for Pacquaio. Stylistically, he's probably Pacquaio's toughest fight. The knock on Clottey is that he has a tendency to flat give up stretches in his biggest fights, which cost him against Margarito and Cotto, so you would expect that to also cost him against Pacquaio.

Clottey is an excellent fighter he dominated Zab Judah, Diego Corrales (albeit a shot, fat Corrales) and some other quality guys. Lets face it if he doesnt hurt his hands he wins virtually everyround vs Margarito and IMO beat Cotto. Clottey is a legit top 5 Welterweight with good skills. Clottey has a strong defense and a good chin, he punches good to the body and overall is solid on the inside he has one of boxings better uppercuts, fast hands and decent technique. Clottey is much better then Nate Campebell thats for damn sure.

Clottey's an Average fighter at best. My issue with him is that he doesn't look fluid, so I guess I agree with the whole stiffness commentary. Also he's either in defensive mode with his guard up or hes coming forward throwing punches. At times it's like he can't throw punches while he is under attack and that just bothers me. But, he can take a good punch because his head is 3 times larger and harder than a normal human's head. I give him a B-.

    Agreed about the head.

Okay are you saying hes average because he doesn't look fluid?

What about speed? kept up with Cotto I'd say matched him. He's a free puncher and explosive

    AVERAGE power I'd agree there.

It's not that he can't throw punches while under attack, he CHOOSES not to and thats everyones knock on him. Too comfortable in the shell.
