It's now in pre-production. No final script or casting. What will make it a GREAT FILM, e.g: RAGING BULL, not an embarrassment like the JOE LOUIS STORY?
It was a smart ass answer. I know as much about Ray Robinson as I do Lady Gaga's new album. I look forward to it's release, though, I just hope for the sake of you old timers that they have some real talent attached to the project.
I wanna see a gritty warts n all storyline that show not only his achievements in the ring, but his life outside the ring. The good and the bad but most importantly the truth, not a hollywood schmaltz-fest
I'd want the focus to be none boxing, interesting tales of his life with real character depth, no lazy black and white portrayal. Understanding his life and social circumstance would be pretty interesting. Robinson had a great life out of the ring aswell as in it. The boxing parts should be realistic with boxers and they shouldn't make anything up. In the Mickey Ward they had him in with someone who looked to be a HW and then saying 'this guy has 40lbs on Mickey', umm Mickey you never actually fought anyone weighing over 140lbs I hate boxing in movies and I don't think Raging Bull is much better than Rocky as a movie, and no I don't rate Rocky
I bet Burley doesn't get a look in I hope they don't try to make an angel out of him. To hear Sugar's son tell it, comparisons with LaMotta are more than reasonable here. That needs to be addressed and not just in one scene.
It takes plenty of research/knowledge to get the meat and flesh into a movie doesn't it. I think you need to be a big time boxing nerd like ourselves to do that level of research needed. Ofcourse a great biographer could pull it off. With hollywood, they usually more than happy to cash in a massive boxing name and turn it into Rocky 7 Incidently I thought the biopic of Ray Charles (the real Ray Robinson) was an amazing job. Jamie Foxx would probably do a great job
**** that, I want film-makers who are totally unbiased and I wouldn't be one. In my film, Burley would have been on the **** end of every decision he ever lost. In fact that's all that would be in it, Burley being ducked and Burley being shafted by the judges
At most it'll be two hours 'n change, M. Can't include everything, and do justice. Where would you like to see the focus? Because of the time issue, how could they short-hand the Burley issue to satisfy you?
