    A few, off the top of my head...in no particular order:

    15-round championship fights

    Pre-fight ring intros of fighters in up-coming main events.

    Simple black 'n white trunks that don't look like fringed lamp shades in a ***** house.

    black high-top boxing sneakers

    The Star Spangled Banner sung the way it was written

    Smoke-filled arenas

    The excitement on a Friday night at the ol' Garden

    Willard Mullen's boxing cartoons in the World Telegram/Sun

    Dan Parker, Jimmy Cannon

    Weekly smokers at gyms 'n settlement house

    Local ethnic rivalries...

    Williams-Burley

    Imagine Pacquiao and Mayweather meeting six times in their respective primes. They can't even sort it once!

    Modern boxing has made 6 fight rivalries almost impossible.

    Trilogies it seems is the best we'll get.

    The boxing writing.

    Hype Igoe, Jim Murray, and Westbrook Pegler are only three who commanded such quality. Reading their accounts of the fights and fighters is nothing short of a pleasure. Joe Liebling, my personal favorite. Reading his essays is nothing short of an experience.

    I'm not really old enough to remember a lot of the old school things, but fighters seem to be fighting less and less nowadays. Then the fights get so much build up that 9/10 they disappoint anyway.
