When a fighter with less fights is considered a step up to the fighter with more

In fairness there, Sanchez was a world champ and Gomez the fighter moving up.

 

True, but Gomez was very well regarded, some had him as the p4p best in the world, and was the heavy favorite going into that bout, while Sanchez was pretty much unknown except for the hardcore boxing fans of course.

 

Sugar Ray Leonard vs Roberto Duran I

Ray Leonard had less fights but had a way bigger purse and was seen as better than Duran who had way more fights and KO's. Duran was also very envious and angry about this.

 

This was the first one to pop into my head.

I understand where your coming from tho, since Sanchez had already beaten excellent fighters in Little Red Lopez and Juan Laporte before facing Gomez.

Thats your arrogance coming into play when you think you can read someone Jasper. Impossible for you to read me, unless I wanted you to read something, which would be a trap.
No angle, just a thread examining levels and steps up for fighters with more fights.

The best example on this thread, to me, is Hatton, who had so many pointless fights and excuses made, then stepping up to fight Tsyzu, who had, had less fights. That was a good example

 

This weekend had a pretty good one, Takashi Uchiyama (18-0-1) vs Bryan Vasquez (29-0).

Vasquez had more fights on the ledger by a considerable amount, but Uchiyama was defending his title for the 6th time and is considered by many to be the best at 130.

 

Hozumi Hasegawa (28-2) was considered a step up for Fernando Montiel (41-2-2)
