He wasn't really known as a self deprecating kind of man. I'm honestly rather shocked to find out that he called himself an Uncle Tom. Although he had to talk **** to anybody in the area, so maybe some sort of interview was conducted where cameras were placed in an room where Ali was alone.
Calling himself an Uncle Tom is bad enough but imagine if he'd said it to someone like.... i dunno? Joe Frazier for instance, well that would be outrageous.
i remember that ali interview where he called himself "ignorant" and he rolled around on the floor, wrestling himself. poor howard cossell had to pull him off himself
