List of hyped fighters that got exposed, who were the top hype jobs that completely exposed down the years?

Audley Harrison and Michael Grant are going to fight this one out.

Each taking on a 42 year old with a losing record who they outweigh by about 60lbs. If they both win, it sets up the clash of the best fighters in history, pound for pound, who were both not actually very good.

Duane Bobick was heavily touted but quite the bust.

Though, while AM success doesn’t necessarily translate to the PROs - I understand his record was very good as an amateur - having a win over Teofilo Stevenson and a DQ win over Larry Holmes - the latter I have seen - dropped Larry hard, no mean feat, then Holmes became extremely gun shy, failing to engage sufficiently for the ref’s liking.

Ken Norton exposed him, Duane Bobick never really fought anybody in the professional ranks before that ill fated fight.

Yeah, there’s a few recognisable names on his resume but none the quality of Norton - Kenny blew him out in under a minute and a few years later Big John Tate did same in the first rd, took a little bit longer than Ken though. :)

    Jorge Luis Gonzalez
    Anthony Hembrick
    Shawn O'Sullivan
    Vince Shomo

All of the above were great amateurs but just could never make the transition to successful pro.

I remember watching hembrick on Tuesday night fights around 1990. He was an unbeaten prospect and his ring entrance was one of the most flamboyant I had ever seen. The guy he fought hammered him out of there in the first round. That was the end of that. Although in fairness hembrick still had an “ okay “ career

I watched that same fight live. As a true boxing fan you Don't want to see a fighter hurt.
But if any fighter deserved to get destroyed like that it was Hembrick.
That clown show he put on in the ring that night before the fight. And what happened during , is the ultimate expression of Bad Karma coming to a fighter.

Man, my Dad and I watched that synchronized dance routine and were sitting there with our mouths open. Much like Hembrick was a minute or so later courtesy of Booker T. Word. Just doesn't pay to be that cocky.
