Was up there except for Hopkins that would have been a competitive fight for him/a scalp that would have improved his record?

There was talk of Dawson who was still undefeated and very highly thought of. And perhaps Clinton Woods cos he was British and had a title. But Woods then went and lost to Tarver and that was that.

The one fight that really should have happened after Hopkins was Pavlik at 168.

Dawson and maybe Pavlik are the only immediate ones that come to mine. He could have probably made a tidy bit fighting guys like Tarver but there wasn't really any point. Clinton Woods before that loss was also a good shout, but there really wasn't anyone thast was going to top RJJ and B Hop. He retired at the right time.

Pavlik was at 160 and came to 170 to fight Hopkins. He was an interesting opponent, but people would have complained he was a blown up MW.

The only legit LHW options were Dawson or Woods for a belt. But the Pavlik fight would have been a good mark on the board.

On here (well the general forum), people genuinely believed Pavlik would knock Calzaghe out . Some Pavlik huggers even went as far as saying Pavlik/Lockett put Joe off the idea of fighting Pavlik :patsch.

One VERY respected poster said Calzaghe ducked Pavlik because Pavlik would always have beaten Calzaghe

    and I won't name names

EDIT: oh and this was of course, before BHOP made a child out of Kelly

LMAO I remember that, it wasn't just Pavlik fans who said that...

I remember that. I also remember they thought that Pavlik-Lockett gave a clear indication of how a Calzaghe fight would turn out, because, y'know, they fight the exact same way.

They were exciting times. It looked like Pavlik was going to have a really fun career (although he was horribly overrated by US fans).

One of the biggest disappointments regarding Joe's career was not seeing him Lacy Kelly Pavlik after all the bull**** spouted on here by Pavlik supporters & the Anti Joe brigade .

Think Johnson was still about. The division had largely emptied by the time Joe fought there.
