Dawson beat Tarver for the second time in 2009 after Calzaghe had retired. Dawson had already beaten Tarver once in 2008 in a bore fest which didn't do his marketability any good. It was just before Calzaghe-Jones if I remember rightly. After the Jones Jr fight there was speculation of a farewell in the Millennium Stadium but given how ugly the Hopkins fight was nobody wanted to see a rematch and Dawson at the time wasn't bringing any excitement. The hardcore would've liked a Dawson fight but there wasn't really any clamour for it unfortunately which means it didn't come with dollar signs dripping off it. Even though quite a few boxing people were saying that Dawson was the real No 1 in the division, as the struggle against Johnson and the Tarver win still carried some weight back then. The only mouthwatering fight around was Pavlik but him jumping up to light heavy wasn't really feasible in hindsight.

Spot on Earl, expect to see the same thing if Ricky Burns beats Adrien Broner

I admit I thought, and still think lacy was absolutely awesome. Joe ruined him.
