Of course. But how many were actually punches? Some of the shots he threw weren't even slaps, they were just movements with his wrists. I dont score those and either should judges.
Yes. That margin. Maybe 5, actually, but I was really trying to give Calzaghe the benefit of the doubt.
shows how great B hop really is. Barely lost(won in many eyes) in his mid 40's. B hop in his prime destroys calzaghe but either way he is still ranked higher in the all time rankings as it stands now.
I had Calzaghe winning by a point or two, but like you say, some folks are going to be inclined to give a guy a round if he lands 2 or 3 good punches if the other guy doesn't land anything special. That's why some folks scored for Pascal even though he was clearly being beaten up from round 5 on. I don't score based on clean punches. I go by effectiveness. That's why I had Hopkins sweeping rounds 5-12 vs. Pascal. Pascal landed the bigger punches in just about every round, but the punches weren't really having much of an effect, probably because they came so few and far between. Hopkins was landing smaller punches but they were clearly effecting Pascal. He couldn't do what he wanted in there and was gassing badly. I gave more rounds to Calzaghe not because of his workrate, but because of the effects his game had on Hopkins. Hopkins did indeed land some nice shots in a few rounds, but that isn't enough to turn it to his favor for me. If the punches he threw had hurt Calzaghe or made him alter what he was doing, it would be different. Alexander vs. Kotelnik wasn't remotely similar. Kotelnik did better work AND more work (work being defined as landing effective punches and not getting hit with anything in return). Alexander couldn't get anything going, and was getting backed up all night by KOTELNIK. IMO that fight wasn't close and it was easy to score.
funny you say that when its nothing but crackzaghe fanboys bringing this up three times a day. i think deep down inside you and the other crackzaghe huggers thought it was a dodgy decision and mask it by making millions of threda about it making essays worth of an analysis. its truly pitiful, and it making me think the crackzaghe fan section are finally coming to terms of how grossly overrated their idol is. one day you'll see the light...one day:good
Just rewatched this fight the other day. Ugly boring affair. Calzaghe by a nose. The judge that had 116 t0 111 for Calzaghe was way too wide. You got admire an ancient old man like Hopkins still giving hell to young guys like Calzaghe.
Calzaghe wasn't a young guy, the man was 36 years old, certainly no spring chicken and fighting with a volume punching style with f*cked up hands. LOL at the idea Hopkins gave Calzaghe hell, it was the other way round mate.
i haven't rewatched this fight yet, nor do i ever intend to. but at the time, i was in a pub at university and i saw hopkins win the first 2, and joe win the last 10.
