:nut:nut:nut Yeah because taking a fight against your nemesis-a man that you've always struggled with (when you are already 2-0-1 against him and have no need to fight him) is cherry picking. :patsch

In fact, a lot of these are just upsets, not cherry picking.

Mathews had just been broken down and stopped by Marsili and Crolla had just dominated Limond and was touted as a possible opponent for Ricky Burns and Erik Morales, Derry wasn't the mandatory, it was a voluntary defense which 90% of people expected Crolla to come through without much difficulty.

Khan was coming off his war with Maidana and his domination of Zab Judah, Peterson was a mandatory challenger for the IBF but he was coming off a draw with Ortiz and had been dominated a couple of years earlier by Bradley, Khan's team definitely saw it as an easy win, hence the stupid decision to travel to DC to fight Lamont.

Agreed, to call that a cherry pick is just sheer delusion

David Haye - Carl Thompson. That didn't quite go according to plan.

Audley Harrison - Michael Sprott 1. In fact just about every Harrison loss except Haye has been a case of cherry picking going wrong.

This. Benn was meant to be a past-it but still well-known name for McClellan to have on his record. Understandably, Benn was quite vocal about this after the fight.

You can if you think he will be an easy nights work, Benn was mean't to be a easy touch for McClellan so he could pick up a title in a new division and many people thought it would last a round or two at most.

Upset and Cherry picking are not the same thing. Cherry picking is when you have options and pick the weakest one and often regale their past glories to justify it. Shane Mosley has been cherry picked of late.

While I don't think it can be classed as cherry picking because I think it may of been a mandatory! But I remember being really shocked when Rahman knocked Lewis flat out!

  12. Martin Pacas, Muay Thai World Champ, fought right now in his boxing pro debut against Marcin Najman, who lostagainst Wawrzyk or in MMA against Pudzianowski. One bum and one former strong men ..

Cherrypicking went really wrong for Pacas, he was TKO'ed in round 2.:patsch

Khan - Prescott: Brought in with a padded puncher's record, expected easy night for Amir.

Ryan - Thaxton: Keep busy fight between title fights, Jon had a 10-3-0 record coming in.

Harrison - Sprott 1: Audley on a wave after impressive KO over Williams, saw no threat.

Mitchell - Katsidis: Katsidis was seen as damaged goods after Marquez, hype aroung Mitchell was very high, especially being at Hyde Park. Also 'that' poster.... funny though as hindsight shows it was Michael's last hurrah.

I am not claiming anything other than knowing the odd very minor figure in the British sport. But even with my lack of connections, I knew this fight was set up as a bit of a betting sting. Everyone knew who was going to win that fight, it was a horrible stylistic match up for ol' Scrap Iron.
