When did Ali's "Parks" issue truly come into view? Yes, '84 is noted, BUT!?

    Fellas,

Yes, Yes, I know that technically Ali was not diagnosed with Parks syndrome until 1984 while he was retired from boxing, but, in my book I think he was probably suffering from the early stages of the syndrome as early as 1978 against Leon Stinks. By 1979 when he was filming "Freedom Road" his speech was okay, but slowed... By the time he came back to be battered by Larry Holmes, Ali was clearly ill and affected... IMO!

Anyone care to challenge or debate my belief?:huh:bbb

I can remember,as clear as daylight, when I first noticed that something was wrong with Muhammad. Although I did n't think it was anything serious at the time. It was in 1979,when Muhammad came over to Britain on his 'Retirement' tour. He was doing this television programme called 'Muhammad Ali's Greatest Hits' Anyway,on this prog, his voice sounded croaky, and I thought it was just a cold or sore throat. When he announced that he was coming back to fight Larry Holmes, his voice sounded worse, and all the papers were now talking about it. By the time he came back, again,to fight Trevor Berbick, his face had started to adopt that sometimes expressionless look. So bloody sad.

Definitely slurring his speech quite badly in 1979.

Some have commented that his speech sounded slurred in his 1977 film,The Greatest. I thought that he sounded ok. I'll watch it again tonight.

In hindsight the symtoms are noticable as early as the first Spinks fight.

I recall Ali needed 30 takes to get it right---enough for release.... D-Con bug killer.....

Ali was slurring in his cameo of "Body and Soul" with Leon Isaac Kennedy.:deal

    I still like that low-budget flick....:hey

The post fight interview for the first spinks fight tipped me off something was wrong. his speech was very low, slow, and slurred.

Anyone remember Ali being announced in the ring before "Tyson-Spinks" and Ali came into the ring with shades on and all wobbly?

At 6:39 Ali is introduced, his movements were stiff, slow & he shook bad after touching Mike's glove at 7:13. :verysad

I thought Ali sounded fine in "The Greatest", i think it will have been filmed before his hugely damaging '77 fight with Shavers.

Ali was fine in '77 at age 35, but his skills were in decline as evident against the rugged but limited Shavers.......

Ali's dec. over Shavers is, in my book, his LAST great effort / performance..:deal
