He didn't. Taking into account that being an ATG is the pinnacle of what a boxer can achieve, then Calzaghe falls short. Certified HoFer though.
Why dont you go & check the names on the poll, see which posters voted for which option. Let me know how that **** turns out for you :-(
Calzaghe no longer gets praised for that victory because of Andre Ward.. Ward a guy with just 20 fights DOMINATED Kessler and beat him up way more convincing then Calzaghe did.. Hes nothing close to an ATG :verysad and by the look of the votes everyone agrees with me I knew this day would come and im glad to see everybody has woken up
ATG in terms of what? Top 100? Top 50? Top 10? he is in the later stages of the top 50 to 100 discussion. Off the top of my head I wouldnt know where to put him, but I can see him being top 100 based on his talent, record and being undefeated. His resume is what hurts him in the real serious top 50 discussion.
I think he could have been an ATG but wasted alot of time defending a title that isnt as respected as say the WBA/WBC belts. If he had of fought Ottke ive no doubt he would have won clearly, and it would have been a good name but Ottkes trainer openly admits Sven didnt want any part of it and Joe didnt want to (understandably) relinquish his belt to make himself no.1 contender. I think he would have beaten Hopkins at anytime in his career but Hopkins decided he wanted more money to meet Joe so the bout happend alot later than it should. In this case its not Joes fault. In Roy Jones, he should have gone up to fight Jones when Roy was LHW champ, but didnt seem to believe in himself. I actually think now in light of reading Roy was using steroids in his career and looking at who Roy fought in his MW, SMW & LHW fights theres not anyone I see on there that I think would beat Calzaghe & in the 1st Montel Griffin fight Jones was being walked into corners quite easily, which in the same situation Calzaghe would have been unloading fast shots at Jones which I cant recall anyone else ever really trying to do to him, so I guess we'll never know now about Calzaghe.
calslappy ATG..lol **** me The guy gets dropped every 2 nd fight and slaps like a girl..jesus it doesn';t take much to be a ATG these days does it.:yep
Depends on what you mean by ATG. If you mean top 100 p4p, I don't believe he did. If you mean top 10 Super Middleweight, that's another story altogether.
when he was the undisputed champ for over 10 years when boxers like hopkins got scared and pulled out of the fights in 2002 when everyone like roy jones ducked him when everyone who wanted a piece of him got their ass handed to them
atsch too much Calzaghe, rate him above Hopkins in the ATG stakes. I do not know where all the Calzaghe hate comes from - there are much weaker American fighters who are highly rated by all but many people seem to have a blind spot for Calzaghe. He pretty much beat everyone there was to beat and when he retired there was no decent fights left for him. Not many fighters could go to the USA and beat Hopkins, even now.
