when did chavez start showing signs of deterioration?

Honestly the only punch that scared the heck out of me in the JCC vs Camacho fight was that beautiful uppercut Hector landed in the 4th(?) round? I can't remember what round it was, but damn I thought JCC was going to go down because it landed right on the button.

With all due respect to Greg Haugen, he was made to order for JC Chavez.
Any chance Haugen had of being competitive in his fight with Chavez, went down the drain when he started his "Chavez has only fought Taxi Cab drivers" rant......

Those rants form Haugen were all the motivation Chavez needed to get up for that fight, but the reality is that Chavez at about 50% capacity would have knocked out Haugen regardless.

Haugen had good skills, but physically he had nothing to compete with Chavez against.
Add the physicality part of it with tha fact that there was'nt anything that Haugen did better than Chavez, and we got what we got.......a complete massacre of Chavez over Haugen.


Btw Scientist, Chavez spent alot of his time in Mexico promoting his fight with Haugen at Azteca stadium.
There was alot of promotion from Chavez for that fight because he was conscious that he could set an alltime record in attendance for that fight.
He promoted to sellout that huge stadium......and alot of Mexican journalist were of the thinking that Haugen might give Chavez a tough fight because Chavez seemed to be so busy promoting that he could be laxing some in training......

....and lets be real. I think you know this, a half assed trained Chavez still beats Haugen comfortably.

 

By the tme he fought Meldrick for the first time,his skill were starting to diminish....

 

I was going to say from Camacho but he did put in a brutal display against Greg Haugen after that. So you would have to say after the schooling by Pernell Whitaker. I suppose he lost that air of invincibility and obviously a few fights later he lost to Frankie Randall.

 

Disagree, he was way on his way to decadence by the time he fough Sweet Pea, Sweet Pea merely exploited thiose deficiencis
