Reading over bob arums talk about how they have other fighters in mind, when discussing winky and pavlik wanting to fight eachother, and winky was gonna let pavlik have the bigger portion, leads me to wonder...

when did boxing get so backwards?

the fighters dont get what they want, the promoter get what HE wants.

how in the hell, does pavlik vs winky not come off... when pavlik wants to fight winky, and winky wants to fight pavlik, and they can agree to it financially.

but it wont happen because BOB ARUM doesnt want it to?????

    WTF????

am i the only one who sees that bob arum has NOTHING to do with this????? jezas... someone, anyone... please tell me wt hell is going on here?

pavlik should have signed with goldenboy (i find myself saying that a lot about fighters)

Unofrtunately, a lot of fighters have become yes men to their promoters. They forget that the promoter is supposed to be working for them, not the other way around. As a result, fighters have less control over their careers. Too many of them are content with sitting back and fighting who their promoter tells them to fight.

That's why people like Floyd and Oscar do their own thing. They don't need promoters to tell them who they should and should not fight. Even guys like Mosley and Hopkins have total control over their careers.

If Kelly wants it, let it happen. But like nearly all Wright fights, this will suck and Pavlik will look bad pulling off a slim win.

I dont know... It's that question of "Does defense really win the game?" Pavlik has the offensive edge, but winky's defense is crazy....

Yeah Bob Arum is an idiot! He is trying to hold off on big fights for his fighters, so he can milk them, till the point that they have mandatory formidable opponents.

If he puts the fighters (cotto, and pavlik) against really good fighters repeatedly, then he runs the risk of losing a lot of money, had he cashed out on a few easier fights first..

It has always been this way which is why you see so many fighter ether suing there promoter or leaving them al together and starting there own promotional company .

which is why I don't understand why boxing fan are surprised when fights are not made and blame the fighters.

A lot longer than that. You can trace it back to Tex Rickard in the 20's and 30's, Franky Carbo and Blinky Palermo ib the 50's and 60's, and King, Arum and a host of others since.

    Yep:yep http://www.greece-athens.com/page.php?page_id=425

Not all athletes lived up to this code of excellence. Those who were discovered cheating were fined, and the money was used to make bronze statues of Zeus, which were erected on the road to the stadium. The statues were inscribed with messages describing the offenses, warning others not to cheat, reminding athletes that victory was won by skill and not by money, and emphasizing the Olympic spirit of piety toward the gods and fair competition.

The earliest recorded cheater was Eupolus of Thessaly, who bribed boxers in the 98th Olympiad. Callippus of Athens bought off his competitors in the pentathlon during the 112th festival. Two Egyptian boxers, Didas and Sarapammon, were fined for fixing the outcome of their match at the 226th Olympics. All these men were immortalized as cheaters in the writer Pausanias' 2nd century A.D. guidebook to Greece, in which he describes the statues at Olympia and recounts the men's misdeeds.

 to everyones replys about the old school olympics.

the worst thing I hear fighters say is "I'll fight whoever my promoter wants me to fight"

your Promoter is YOUR Promoter. YOU are not HIS fighter.

TELL HIM WHO YOU WANT TO FIGHT!

I think alot of fighters hide behind it too though.

like your the champ, you've got a few good challengers but there's this one kid whos just been killing folks. you tell your manager" anyone but that guy" and just tell everyone after the fights you manage to win against the lesser guys "hey I fight who my promoter wants me to fight" cause alot of people dont get the relationship between fighter and promoter.

YOU promote MY fight. I dont fight for YOUR promotion.
