Nope I think the Rock beats Ike, Tyson, Liston perhaps, Holmes, Bowe, Tua, and Holyfiled. Thown in the Kilt brothers also. Marciano is a great fighter. Tua and Ike failed to be great fighters, so even head to head I cant put them over the Rock who PROVE he was great.

Yeh, I think Tyson, and Liston would be the ultimate nightmare for Marciano - You can't move forward and plough through punches with these men, they'd make you box. Early stoppages for sure.

If Marciano was no longer ranked in the top 10 it would be because heavyweights had come along who accomplished more than he did rather than because of size. The size of the heavyweight is irrelevant in assessing legacy.

If you take Rocky from the 50's as he was, there are probably a number of fighters who could beat him, largely from the modern (60's up) era. Rocky just can't compete size-wise with some of these monsters.

But like I have always said, you give Marciano the benefits of modern nutrition and pack 20-25 pounds on his frame, and he'd be hell for just about anyone. That's my take anyway.

On a legacy and accomplishment basis, Rocky sure as hell deserves a top 10 slot.

i think many people in this thread are underating marciano in his head to head abilities. yall need to go back and check the films, marciano was alot more skilled than you think! most of the bigger men in history would lose to marciano simply cause he would break them mentally, and they wouldnt be able to keep up with his workrate/punchrate and they would exhaust themselves into losing by late round Ko's. pretty simply.

just watch the film, its all their

I agree. It's kinda like "whatever I do the guy just keeps coming". If that doesn't take a toll mentally on a boxer, I don't know what would.

Rocky could lose to another ATG HW, but he is no piece of chopped liver for them... head to head, or otherwise.

marcianos low crouch, ackward effectiveness in rolling ducking slipping weaving bobbin from punches would really give big men problems IMO

I think he'd have the hardest time against the heaviest of hitters... if they are able to connect. I think Marciano was better at evading punches than Frazier, so the Frazier-Foreman comparison isn't appropriate in my view. Evasion, and hard punches from both hands makes me think Foreman would have a very hard time with Marciano.

Still, the hard punchers have the best shot. The guys that flick off jabs and box don't do well against Marciano... the power just isn't there the majority of the time - regardless of how big they are.

SuzieQ49 - I zapped you a pm that I'm interested in. Just wanted you to check in case you hardly ever do :)
