Cotto 1 was the beginning of the end. He took a lot of punishment to grind out that win. I don't think he was ever the same after that fight.

edit: The final nail was probably Mosley. Didn't take too much time off in between fights and got beat mercilessly by Mosley.

    This...

Being exposed got him put into those situations that led to him now being a one eyed fighter.

It's clear that his punches do not cause the blunt force trauma that they did at one time. It's not a guarantee he used them in every past fight, but he's looked like **** in every bout since being caught. Go figure.

Margarito is not and never was a shot fighter. People are confusing shot with being an awful fighter. Margarito is just an awful fighter. And will always get hit over and over again because He's an easy to hit fighter with no defense and slow as ****. Doesn't mean he's shot.

ummm, i dont think he's ever been shot...

he's just NEVER BEEN THAT GOOD

Of course he's got some feathers in his cap, but thats wholly due to his physical gifts, NOTHING to do with his skill and talent.

Take away a rock chin and replace it w/ an average, above average chin.

Take away the ungodly stamina he maintains thru great training, and give him above average stamina.

NOW..... exactly how far does his skill and talent takes him?

    'Nuf said

His physical gifts are enuf to carry him thru B level competition, and sometimes a possible win vs a weak A caliber fighter. But hasn't this been his legacy?

If not for the eye injury, Cotto II would have ended up like Cotto I, even with the Cotto improvements. Tony isn't shot. He's just injured and should retire.

This thread is hilarious. 10 different posters with 10 different answers. Most of them clueless.

He did endure a lot of damage in that fight, and this fact is often overlooked.

He became `shot` 15 minutes before the Mosely fight when his magic special ingredient was removed from his wraps. Since then he hasnt hit with that same power and force once... go figure. A disgrace to the sport of boxing whose whole career is now void in my opinion

Still dangerous, in the mosley fight, he just wasnt focused because of the hand wrap scandal. Margarito lost to pacquiao cos he was just tailor made for him and cotto beat margarito cos of the damaged he received from pac. Broken orbital bone. Margarito still tough and very dangerous.

I'd say the Pacquiao fight, he was game all the way through really but it was evident the eye damage would be a factor in an future fights.
