No one thinks Margarito wouldn't get hit. He would get hit, smile, and proceed to batter Mayweather. Margarito had one of the hardest jaws in recent memory and no punch Mayweather can throw would have bothered him

This :deal a volume puncher with tremendous stamina and an iron jaw spells trouble for floyd. hell Maidana poses trouble and he was neither iron chinned or even remotely the stamina/workrate of Margs.

Originally it started with Tszyu. There were negotiations that fell through for the fight to happen because both were fighting under different networks. It was spinned that it was Mayweather ' s fault but that is not the case.

When he retired in 2008 and wanted to lay low because the division was getting too hot .

That's Pretty much when it all started....

Also His well known of reputation of being a liar and often contradicting himself everytime he opens his mouth doesn't really help stop the coward remarks .

Floyd would have beaten Margarito .

Theres no other realistic outcome I could see to that fight .

Win or lose, he would have quit the next day because the beat down was so bad he would of had to retire

That's some rhetoric Arum started spewing when Floyd left him with a stable of nobodys. Before that Arum was singing his praises.

It's really taken on a life of its own. I personally think the theory that he left to avoid a mandatory rematch with Oscar is believable. Because, even as the winner of the first fight, he would have had no negotiating leverage in the rematch.

All this he ducked Cotto, Margarito talk is nonsense. Yes...I think he did duck Paul Williams. But, nobody really wanted to fight tall Paul.

Refer to the Castillo I and Maidana I fights.

Margarito was taller, longer reach, higher volume, stronger, bigger, more ironed chinned than Chino, and GREAT stamina.

There is defitnitley another possible outcome than your speculation.

IIRC, the only talk of a mandatory rematch clause was brought up in the last year or so by a fresh-from-rehab ODLH.

At the time of the fight, it was reported that there was no rematch clause.

    No problem.

And for your records, here's the NY Times report the day after the fight (LINK):
