for you? At what point in time were you aware and when did it capture you as a fan? What age were you, what year...which fight?
I became aware of boxing when my muslim friend introduced me to Naseem Hamed. I became a fan of the sport when Barrera beat Hamed's ass. I became a die-hard fan a few months later when Hopkins beat Tito
Always liked the sport - since the 80's. Became a true fan around 98 - after coming home from work and turning on the TV - only to see this fast ass guys - beating he **** out of another guy. The fast ass guy was named - Sugar Shane Mosley. I've been hooked every since. This is actually the only sport that I follow - so I treat it like a job.
I became a Tito Trinidad fan back in '91 because one of his cousins lived next door to me. I became an actual fan of the sport (not just the fighter) when Tito fought Vargas back in '00
I remember hearing about Tyson but never saw him fight but that was my first knowledge of the sport. Was too young to watch boxing, but when I was about 11 I saw Roy Jones Jr. V.S Montell Griffin 1. That really made me want to watch the rematch.
When I saw Cindarella Man. Yeah, sorry but its' true. Thats when I got interested. When I was bored and paid the equivalent of 60$ (not much by Danish standards) to see Kessler-Andrade. They wanted to fill the stadium and sold tickets cheap, so I thought, why not. Thats when I became hooked.
I've always liked boxing, bought a few of those magazines and videos starting with the Tyson one. I got properly into it when Hatton fought Tszyu in '05, I was in Iraq and my regimental sergeant major was from Manchester so me and a few others stayed up to watch it, I think it was about 5 or 6am. Never looked back since.
Roy Jones jr. vs. Vinny Pazienza, I was 9, and I had seen both of their previous fights on TV. In my head I honestly thought it was going to be a close fight. I also remember in grade 6 telling the class that I was picking Holyfeild by KO over Tyson and they all got pissed.
