Mayweather-Hatton believe it or not. I had never even heard of Floyd/had any interest in the sport before then. I had just never been exposed to it as none of my friends or family are fans of boxing. May-hatton was in December 07, and a spark grew from there and I remember being really stoked for margarito-cotto. Have watched all the big ones in the last 20 years since then. God bless the internet :bbb
Ya know what? I think I was talking out my ass -- again:nut It was in fact Ali that really got me into boxing. I was like 7 years old, and we argued endlessly on the playground and school bus over Clay/Liston. Man, we're talking over 40 years ago, so it's hard to keep it all straight! I picked Clay to knock Liston out cuz "my boy is to fast for that oaf!" Bro, I been talkin' **** about boxing for WAY to long! And by the way -- SRL/Hearns!! The late 70's early 80's was an awesome time to be a boxing fan. a lot of the youngin's on here would have a permanent hard on.
That fight for me was the one that made me really interested in boxing, I watched fights before hand sure but this one made me want to watch more.
Always have been intrested in the mega fights. Such as Lewis Tyson. Became a harcore fan of the sport when watching Israel Vasquez v Rafael Marquez in summer of 07 when i was 14. Alfonso Gomez v Gatti was the first fight i rememeber staying up for (without a British fighter in it, such as Hatton or Calzaghe) and knowing my boxing so to speak lol. Probably one of the youngest posters on these boards.
1951 i was 10years old the old man let me stay up to listen to randy turpin beat SRR & I was hooked from then on As far as when boxing began I would think from the time man could stand on his hind legs & defend what was his
nah im talking about the first time they fought. after that Cain couldn't knock him out and was beat on points. so they had a rematch and Cain loaded his hands with Rocks this is where Margocheato got the Idea of loading his Gloves being that he's a devoted Catholic and All :yep he figured if it's in the Apocrapha it must be OK
Most of those posting here are in their 20's or early 30's....a couple watched boxing in the decades of the 50's and 60's and some should remember Patterson, Liston, Benvenuti, Frazier, Tiger and on through Shavers, Lyle, Duran, Arguello, Leonard, Hagler and Hearns. Boxing is a rich and a historically deep sport with roots even before John L. Sullivan. I would encourage all to log into the Classic Forum and enjoy learning about its past.
This is kind of the way it was for me except I was a casual follower of the sport. I was aware of big fights and watched some of them. I watched Hatton/Floyd and I've been hooked since then.
