So why do they have Gary Lockett ranked number one in the world at 160?

I don't have a good answer for you. Are you saying that all the other reconized major tittles in the history of boxing have been flawless in their rankings?

Nope but this is one of the worst I've seen in a long time & is a reminder of the days the WBO used to pick challengers out of the crowd to fight for their bauble. The WBO is a Frank Warren title. Watch Khan & Lockett both fight for vacant WBO belts within the next year.

Perhaps but that's not really an argument for the WBO is it? Plus considering the WBC have actually spear headed several, succesful initiatives in boxing I think they can be afforded some grace.

Dude, WBC gave Don King so much influence he demanded title changes be reversed due to his perception of time and its inate flow. When did a Boxing organization deem King's knowledge of Physics essential to the running of a sport.

Again, how does this make the WBO a prestigious belt which is what this topic was about?

The WBO is not recognised as a major title. The number 1 boxing magazine doesn't recognise it and neither does the hall of fame. Neither do lots of boxing fans.

How can the WBO be a recognised title when the above do not recognise it?

Are you talking about Ring Magazine? Dosent Golden Boy promotions own it or at least have a controling share? No matter what the history of the Ring's rankings are. If they are in fact owned and operrated by GBP or any other promoter or any one else drectly involved than there ranking and which tittles they reconize no longer holds the same weight that it might have in the past.

Thats a weak retort because The Ring have never recognised the WBO & given that the Golden Boy has held WBO titles surely, if anything, he'd want them to be recognised by The Ring.

Exactly. It's in the interests of promoters to have more titles, not the interests of the sport. If The Ring were iinfluenced by Golden Boy they'd probably recognise the WBO (also remember that would make DLH a 6 weight champion rather than 4).

The question raised by this thread is meaningless because the WBO is not recognised as a major title. The Ring and hall of fame don't recognise it.

Golden Boy Bought Ring magazine like at the most - 6 months ago. So how he has an impact on the ratings etc is pretty much a stupid assumption on anyones part who thinks he has a say.

There was a controversy with the magazine in the 70's with a fixed tourney, but calling out the rankings - Which are overseen by a board of boxing writers world wide and from numerous other website and print publications kind of shows once again that people often post on this board without actually knowing the facts.
