I was a Sweet Pea fan. He peaked as a Lightweight and briefly at `40. In his first couple of years as a Welterweight he was still great but I would say shortly after the Cardona bout I noticed some slippage. His concentration wasn't the same and his offense started to diminish. His attitude went downhill as well. Then we started to see some knockdowns and even a controversial decision against Rivera.

The JC Vasquez win at 154 lbs was very impressive I think he started slipping shortly aftewards. I guess around 1995.

Yep I would say 95 onwards. Sweet p wasn't to every ones taste but the guy was brilliant. A few months back I watched a good few of his fights, made me realise just how talented he was. He wasn't for the tear up brigade but personally I enjoyed watching him running rings around his opponents.

Definitely vs the Cuban, Hurtado...getting ambushed twice in that first round and having to rally desperately to salvage the win. Sure the ko was spectacular, but it was most "unpea-like" to have to be so desperate.
