The Cunningham fight showed he was special, I'd say.

In the pressers he was funny and not phased coming to the US alone basically. Battleship and his weirdo coach didn't know what to do.
Then in the fight he showed a lot of things that we would see later on.

    On the opponent:

Firstly, Cunningham was not some small guy, he was 6'2 or so, 210 absolutely as lean as you'll see, making him as big as plenty of fleshy HWs in functional weight, people like Arreola etc. If Cunningham had just kept the fat most do, he'd be Povetkin weight. And I think he was juiced based on his appearance, which is something people don't consider but should.

Secondly, Cunningham was a champion level fighter.

    > Fury showed heart and recovery to get up fighting from that KD and take it to Cunningham.
    > Fury did well just boxing with Cunningham, an opponent that fast and capable, and Fury landed good counters and did things you don't normally see from big heavies. Fury might not have been getting the advantage here, but he showed good skills all things considered. And I think he still might have edged Cunningham over 12 just boxing due to the Fury engine.
    > Fury showed his stamina.
    > Fury showed his dogfighting mode and sheer determination and a bit of emergency power to ultimately bulldoze and stop Cunningham after realising he was falling behind.
    > Fury sung a song at the end.

So later on we would see many of these traits come together in championship fights.
    > The trash talk
    > The ability to fight away from home unphased.
    > The ability to recover when hurt/KD'd
    > The ability to box but also dogfight
    > The stamina
    > The will to win

Round 5, Fury was hyped going back to his corner and was dancing enjoying the dog fight. Even after losing a point.

Naseem Richardson cut Cunningham's tape to give him another 30 seconds to rest at the end of that round. Dirty tactics.

Fury could feel he was sucking the life out of him. A man who has never been stopped before. To have confidence you will overwhelm a man like that is special. Wilder is clearly tough as they come also probably tougher than Fury could have ever estimated but still finished him.

I remember when I was convinced that he had no chance against Wladimir, but after the first round I said Fury is a guy who could beat Wladimir and in the end it was so, since then I consider him the best ever...

As soon as the late great Emanuel steward may he rest in peace, talked about fury or Deontay being the next champs of the division, at the time when they were young heavyweight s!

Naazim Richardson resorting to snidely whispering "Primo Carnera" at Fury like the creep he was.

Fury browbeating that towel-flapping windbag into dumbstruck powerlessness was hilarious. Guy was a piece of work, and that's based on having been in his presence — I said it before he passed, I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't say it now. (Hopkins, by contrast, is a real gent.)

I elect to interpret this unironically.

2nd Chisora fight. However beating Dillian Whyte does not make him the greatest heavyweight of all time especially as this was a feat achieved earlier by AJ and Usyk who knocked Whyte out cold and he did not rise to beat the count.

After he mentally dismantled Wlad and the during the Wilder saga. The way he got up in the 1st fight and won the rest of the round. Adjustment in the 2nd fight. He's a true fighter that believes he will win no matter what. You could even see it during one of the fights that I used to use against him (Cunningham). He toyed with a decent fighter with his hands down, got dropped, tightened the defense up, wasn't discouraged and took him out. He has a lot of attributes, from the reach & height, ability to adapt, foot & upper body movement, courage, high boxing IQ, ability to psych opponents out before fight, and stamina for such a big dude. Yes, he's special with all these attributes, but it has to be also considered with the amount of highly skilled fighters he's faced. So far Wlad & Wallin stand out. I wanna see him against Usyk, other decently skilled big men like Joyce, and even AJ.
