I wanted to know what you guys thought because I heard many different theories. Some people slowly lower their workload starting a week or two before. Some also told me three days before take 1 day off then the 2 others small amount of shadow boxing. I also heard of others training normally right up to the match day. What do you guys think?
Well people at my gym seem to take a week off before a fight, I used to think that was a good idea, but it's not, it is way, way too much. When I was in Thailand, if fighting on the Saturday we would train right up to Wednesday 100%. Thursday we would only run 3 laps instead of 6 in the morning and just do shadow boxing when the others are doing pads. Friday we would just run 1 lap and shadow box/stretch in the morning, have a massage and then rest. Really you only need as much time off as it takes your body to recover from your previous hard workout. So I think Wednesday is a good day to finish your 100% effort based work, Thursday tone it down so you are just doing a little cardio and technique. Friday you are keeping loose and warm, working on technique, and you should feel about 90% recovered by now. Saturday, day of the fight you should be 100% ready
thanks, i think I'm gonna take a day or two off to see how long it takes to fully recover and just do that.
It also depends on if you have a full time job, and what job you have. I had a job in building and construction.. So if I had a fight on Saturday, my last 100% training was on monday. Then I trained normally up until the fight day. If you're used to training every day, one day off can make it very hard to box the next day. My best advice is to just keep it up. If I'm on a training camp, and train 2-3 times a day, we usually have the last 100% training on Wednesday, if we're fighting on Saturday. Like you said, just try to take one or two days off and see how it is. :good
