When do you think steroid use became widespread in boxing?

    When do you think steroids became widespread in boxing?
    I think the worst decade for steroid abuse was the 90s, it seemed like every heavyweight and their mothers were pumped up on drugs. Ike, Tyson, Frank etc all looked super juiced up.
    From what I noticed I think it Friday took off in the 70s with guys like Ken Norton and Ron Lyle looking like they took steroids.

    Depends what you count as a steroid. Cocaine was administered in the early 1900s,when it was acceptable. PED use as most people know it, well I think it became widespread in the 80s, ala Spinks vs Holmes. Though I have suspicions that Mexican fighters could have been using some form of enhancement in the 70s and even 60s.

    The 80's began the run of juicers, Pazienza was a big timer. then of course the usual suspects Holyfield …..
