I have not heard anything about his decision to vacate his super middle weight belts, any news. Could he be playing it safe and judging that if he does lose to Hopkins at light heavy he can keep the belts and still make good money with a super middle defence against Taylor?
He won the belts in November. By the end of autumn, he'd have to fight a mandatory for the WBC. It won't come to that. If Calzaghe somehow loses to Hopkins, he will make Bute an offer the latter won't refuse to fight for the unified championship in Wales, sometime before the deadline.
Since he's a Super Champion the WBA will give him 18 months(from when Kessler defeated Beyer) , the WBC will probably give him a few months after the Hopkins fight and because of what he's done for the WBO I doubt they'd ever ask him to fight another mandatory(unless a German promoter who has a little more clout with the WBO then Warren wants it) .
Why would Calzaghe chose Bute over Taylor? Because Bute is unbeaten, has a belt, fights at SMW, not MW, and because Bute is more dangerous than Taylor, so is a better legacy win...not to mention it would be a unification fight. Of course, Calzaghe would prefer Pavlik, but I very much doubt Pavlik would agree...so he might have to make do with Bute...
Do you real believe that **** you wrote there, you are totally talking out of your ase, It is all about money not all this rubbish belts and more dangerous, Here the facts bute, never been on HBO who pay all the bills. Talyor been on HBO about 10 times and also been apart PPV fight, Talyor fought all time greats and beaten them and fought winky, spinks and 2 fights with pavlik and lets not forget hopkins one all time greats at 160. Come on mate I know you love Bute but get real Bute has not even been in the ring with a fights close to what talyor has been fighting. I think Talyor is well in front of Bute to get a fight with calzaghe
We'll see. Oh...in fact, we won't, because Calzaghe will beat Hopkins and will fight neither Bute nor Taylor.
Taylor has fought a better quality of opposition than Bute obviously as he's been around longer. But Bute to many eyes looks to be more talented. I'm not sure myself if Bute is a better fighter than Taylor, just playing devils advocate.
    Oh my, my, my. My good buddy Decebal, you have gone and put yourself up an Andrade avatar I see.
If Taylor had beaten Pavlik then then Taylor was due to fight Calzaghe next at 168 for the belts. That went down the pan so suppose it depends whether Pavlik is willing to step up by early next year. The Froch-Inkin delay has provided some breathing space as far as the WBC strap is concerned but the WBA have Mundine lined up to assume Calzaghe's mantle with this ridiculous regular/super champ crap.
No way will JC waste his time fighting Bute for a belt he should still have. If he beats Hopkins he'll want to fight Pavlik not a contender from Canada. Joe has said he only wants big fights & I think he'll probably only have two or three more. None of which will be against Lucian Bute.
Interesting, but I don't see Pav moving up early next year. Unless it is for the belts. Cal not having fought at 168 for a lenght of time by then might have trouble making weight giving Pavlik an advantage. Cal says he feels great at the new weight and is glad he doesn't have to cut as much anymore. Once he is used to it, he may not be able to safely make 168 anymore.
I'm not sure that Pavlik could turn a fight with Joe down. The money would by huge, no question. More importantly than that though if he ducked it he would always have a cloud over his career from that day on, that when given the chance to step up to a challange he ducked what would be a career defining fight. Nothing so far that Pavlik has done has suggested to be thats the kind of guy he is.
