I keep hearing BHop was competitive with a prime RJJ, looking at their records I would have thought they were still developing at this stage of their careers.
I think you're right, Roy was still developing I don't consider him quite in his prime at that time when he fought BHOP. I do think that he was still a little green, or Hopkins was just that good either one is acceptable to me.
At 160-168 oh my god! He must have been bout 26 to 29 years old. He beat Hopkins and James Toney. What else needs to be said that we dont already know, incredible speed and power at these weight classes. Although still a bit green!
Say 1994-1997 from the time he shutout Toney and stopped Griffin and Hill like they where journeymen. 10 years later hes still amazing. RJJ is the man.
Jones hit his prime in about 1994....he started to decline in late 2000 early 2001. His prime weight however was obviously 168 though. 12 fights at this weight, 12-0 with 10 KO's.
Roys physical prime was at 168, but IMO he was a much better fighter at 175 in terms of boxing ability, he varied his attack alot more and he developed his body punching extremely after the McCallum fight.
