I've noticed over the last few days some threads on ESB that go far beyond the point of obsurdity. I can think of no better example of this new strain of nuthuggery than a recent thread written about unproven heavyweight contender David Haye. In this thread, entitled "David Haye vs a Prime Ali", the author predicted that Haye, who has yet to fight even fight a top 20 Heavyweight-and that was knocked out by 40 year old Carl Thompson at cruiser, would KO a prime Ali in six rounds! Now again today, another thread popped up asking who win would between "Danny Williams vs a prime Ali", where the author made the assumption that Williams would handily defeat Ali....yes, Danny Williams who was ko'd by Audley Harrison in 3 rounds.

Now keep in mind, this is the same Ali who is regarded as arguably the greatest heavyweight of All-time. The same Ali who fought and won in the Golden era of heavyweight boxing...not the pathetic mess we call heavyweight boxing today.

My point is that these threads, obviously posted by British fans, further harm the credibilty of British fighters in the eyes of American fans. I can't count the number of times I've read complaints on ESB by British fans that Calzaghe never gets the respect he deserves from their Yankee counterparts simply because he's British. Well, I can only speak for myself here but IMO, threads written by deluded fans like the one's I mentioned earlier only serve to further discredit British boxing and perpetuates the often senseless rivally between British and American fans. I apologize if I have alienated knowledgeable British fans that do not wish to be categorized with these morons, but I feel like something had to be said.

True, but I've been dealing with Mayweather nuthuggers over the past few years so nothing suprises me any more. Plus I'm bored at work and trying to pass the time. Lol!

The vast majority of the recent Haye threads are spoofs and are in response to the huge array of Wlad, Pac and Pavlik love ins

I would only have nationalistic pride if my nation was a world superpower.

what i dispise is that people who nuthug get there fighters trashed for it. instead of them

a good example would be the thign about Red Rooster. rooster keeps talking about terry norris being a destoyer of ray leonards career (and thats a pretty solid belif) but becuase he hates leonard so much peopel get vexed and start targeting terry norris as a weak chinned overated figther who picked on smaller fighters.

norris was no way overated. your a mug to think that he was a paper champ. he beatthe best that was around his wieght. a reason he "picked" on by welters was due o the fact that terry always came in very light for the 154 dicision and usually came in at 150. was something welters who were looking for a 2 or 3 weight world title tilt would flex the bait for.

and this haye debate. haye is good, damn good. one of the greatest top 10 cruiser of all time. and he is regarded a top tier heaywieght with only one fight being at that division before.

but please stop buying into the trolling. it's a joke, the tongue is firmly in the cheek dont be a fool. some are just kids who have seen only a few bit of footage of him knokcing guys out an instantly assume. coupled with this that it's the summer holidays,

and for god sake can some of you stop acting liek your on the moral high ground.

Pavlik is American and IMO respected by all through his performances.

Haye and Pac is a different story.

The nuthuggery does get a bit silly at times but people really shouldn't alter their opinion of a fighter just because of some biased, unobjective fan's views.

I like Pavlik. I think he's a good fighter with a decent resume over the past 18 month's and he does have potential. I appreciate people giving their objective views about him on here. Some people do go over the top and act like he is the second coming of Hagler but i don't let that diminish my view of Pavlik as a fighter.

It's best just to laugh of the nuhugging of certain fan's. And lets be honest; the over the top fandom of some poster's on here does add a bit of comedy to the board.

I never said him I said his fans . I don't think there is any boxing that doesn't respect manny regardless of his fans .Haye just comes off as arrogant thus the reason some don't respect him .

There is an ongoing problem on ESB that is much more corrosive than nationalistic pride. Anytime someone comes along and says fighter "A" beats fighter "B", and then follows up with a good analysis, ten posters come along and call the original poster a delusional fighter "A" nuthugger.

Another issue arises out of the fact that we have a lot of posters who are quite young, have never been in a boxing ring, and have been fans for less than 10 years. Many, certainly not all, but many, of these posters are quite arrogant. They rarely now how to lay out a decent analysis of a potential match-up. Instead they just call everyone who disagrees with them a bunch of names, and tend to be absolutely impervious to facts.

Both of these problems are far larger than any problems that might stem from nationalistic pride. However, in spite of its many warts and wrinkles, ESB stands head and shoulders above any other boxing forum on the net.
