how will you remember him. Undoubtedly his fight against Marquez is a super-fight. Say he wins and takes another 2-3 fights and wins them all against the likes of Mosley, Pac, Cotto(???). How will he be remembered? For you does he have to fight and beat a natural welterweight who is at his peak? Cheers.
I will remember him as a good fighter with some of the best skills i've ever seen.......just no heart and guts.
What about as an all-time great in the sport. As you know some people have him up there with the likes of Leonard, Ali, Robinson etc. Do you agree?
If I want to remember Floyd when he wasn't such a cherrypicker, I think of his days @ 130. Back when he was still a fighter, and not a DLH jr. wannabe. He might as well as retired after the JLC II fight.
People actually have mayweather ranked with those guys?atsch Mayweather has never fought anyone the likes of Liston, Foreman, Hagler, Duran, LaMotta etc. in their primes or close to it.
I agree man. I think Mayweather is a sensational fighter. But I would love to see him fight Cotto and Mosley. Two terrific contests. Possibly less money for FMJ which would bother him. But I think a 100% motivated would beat Cotto and edge Mosley. I'm a fan of all three by the way. Paul Williams is the guy who I think could handle him and beat him. And I'm not a huge PW fan.
I actually think he'd take Cotto apart, but yes, I would. At least it might be competitive. But most of all, I'd like to see him fight Mosely. I think that's a natural choice, a competitive fight, and would shut the critics (such as myself) up. See, I think Mayweather is the most talented boxer of his generation, amazing to watch when he's at his best, but he needs live opponents to test those talents against. And his choice of opponents in recent years has proven that he loves the money, but doesn't have the heart to really test himself anymore, and I think that's sad. He'll NEVER rank amongst the true greats until he takes on the likes of Mosely, Williams and Cotto. Even if one of those guys beats him, I'd gain a tremendous amount of respect for him, as would most of the boxing community. Right now, he's just the Harlem Globetrotters of boxing, taking on these ridiculous uncompetitive exhibition bouts that mean nothing to anyone.
Very well put my friend. I agree with everything word for word. I'm a FMJ fan I think he is an outstanding boxer. But before he walks away he needs to fight the three you mentioned. If he does and wins he'll deserve the accolades. I know the phrase "if it don't make dollars it don't make sense" is what FMJ and Ellerbe are all about but in pure boxing terms these are the three fights I want to see.
