It's a tough one but I feel Cleverly is the better athlete and natural talent and he's being somewhat underrated by many, IMO. My major concerns are his mental state and it being over in Chicago in very hostile territory. Even if Cleverly is mentally right, and it's a big if, will he get the decision and how will he respond to the pressure of fighting over there if he isn't and things aren't going his way? The pre Kovalev Cleverly was mentally tough enough to handle that kind of pressure and adversity, the post Kovalev one I'm not so sure about though.

Good point.... Haymon territory, and Chicago has a big Polish population. If it's even remotely close Fonfara could get a gift. Clev will need to school him start to finish if he wants to get the nod.

Never saw the Karpency fight but I think this is a relatively grounded assessment that doesnt overrate him too much

I never thought highly of Fonfara but was impressed that he did ok vs Stevenson and wasnt shocked that he beat Chavez

OP says GGG would get all kinds of credit if he did the same thing and well GGG is a middleweight and if he KO'd a big guy like Chavez to me thats pretty good despite Chavez looking less than stellar...like cst80 said Fonfara was naturally a much bigger guy

Chavez sucked down for 160 but he isnt a muscle bound guy he doesnt have the frame or body of 175lber, hes overweight at 175

Fonfara late KO to win. It's his time. Cleverly doesn't have enough power to hurt Fonfara but Fonfara has enough to hurt Clev.

I'm sure Kovalev is sh*tting himself at the thought of fighting Fonfara :D

Ridiculous thread! Kovalev gets rid of Fonfara within 4 or 5 rounds, easy work.

If Fonfara looks impressive which I think he will, he needs to pursue a rematch with Stevenson.

he already mentioned his main goal for the near future is a rematch with Stevenson, which he should get if he gets past Cleverly

A weirdo with some bizarre anti Kovalev/Duva fetish. :-(

I like Fonfara as well but he had an opportuntiy to stop Stevenson yet did not believe in himself enough to follow up after he had the guy hurt badly. If Fonfara was weary of Stevenson even after hurting him the last person he will ever want to face is Kovalev.

Wouldn't be against it, or the rematch for that matter with Stevenson.
